Favreau Says IRON MAN 3 is a Sequel to AVENGERS

Director Jon Favreau told MTV Splash Page that the expected Iron Man 3 movie will have to serve as a sequel to all the films the title character appears in, including Marvel's various shared-universe movies.

"In theory, Iron Man 3 is going to be a sequel or continuation of Thor, Hulk, Captain America and The Avengers," he told MTV. "This whole world... I have no idea what it is. I don't think they do either, from conversations I've had with those guys."

The director said he's only chatted with Kenneth Branagh and the cast of Thor and had some "passing" conversations with Joss Whedon about The Avengers. However, he knows very little about either movie. At the end of the day, making a Marvel Universe movie is not like making a stand-alone movie and it requires him to be flexible as a storyteller.

"The script is one thing, but when you actually see what you land on at the editing room — especially with Marvel where they film, cut, film some more and shape the film — you really learn as you go," the director said.

Iron Man 3 is tentatively slated for a May 13, 2013 debut.

C2F Quick Hits

  • Voice actor Josh Keaton chatted with C2F about the upcoming Green Lantern animated show as well his current projects Transformers: Prime and Splatterhouse.

  • Perez Hilton says The Dark Knight Rises will begin production in May of 2011. As expected, portions will reportedly be filmed in the UK at Cardington Hangars, outside of Bedford. The production may also revisit some of the locations that will allow Bruce Wayne to return to his family manor, and it's trademark secret caverns for the final installment of the series.

  • Ain't it Cool discusses their visit to the set of Transformers: The Dark of the Moon with an in-depth discussion of the question of whether or not Michael Bay is shooting the entire movie in 3D (as he claims) or if it's a mix (as the interwebs suggest). The verdict? AICN believes the entire movie was filmed both ways to give the director flexibility to tweak things in post.

  • Is 3D filming on Spider-Man underway? Director of Photography on the film, John Schwartzman posted on the Red User forums that he did first day filming on an unnamed 3D project using the new Red Epic camera. "I can say for certainty the camera does exist and boy is it ready for primetime, as a matter of fact it's a true game changer. We shot in 3D with 4 Epics mounted on 2 3ality TS-5 rigs today, we did 22 set ups, including running high speed and the images look stunning!"

  • Bleeding Cool has posted a number of new photos from the set of the currently-filming Dredd movie. Click through for the entire array.

Zimmer Not Doing SUPERMAN After All

Last week there was a report from the PopCornBiz blog in San Diego that suggested composer Hans Zimmer was going to score Zack Snyder's Superman movie. The story seemed plausible as Zimmer is a frequent collaborator of Superman producer Christopher Nolan and the story seemed to be supported by quotes from Zimmer himself.

But now the musician tells Heat Vision that the story is bogus and he's involved with the movie.

"You know, it’s like some dirty quote taken out of context. Let’s just be absolutely straight here: I have never in my life met Zack Snyder. I think I need to give him a ring," Zimmer said. He also added that the matter has been complicated by the tragic murder of his publicist Ronni Chasen, who would be normally squashing such rumors.

But would he take the job if offered. Zimmer seems reluctant.

"John Williams, the greatest living composer -- full stop. And that happens to be one of his greatest themes. So no," Zimmer told Heat Vision. "And I’m not thinking of rewriting Beethoven’s ninth either. It just sounds like a thankless task, you know? So that’s unequivocally a no. I have never spoken with Zack Snyder."

So then how did PopCornBiz's report get so roundly misconstrued by most everyone, including your's truly? Well, the source article has undergone a subtle rewording to indicate that Zimmer's comments were in response to a purely hypothetical question of what he would do if he were given the job of scoring Superman. Silly internet!

WALKING DEAD Kills

Just as suddenly as it shambled to life, season one of The Walking Dead has run its course, climaxing in a blockbuster finale last Sunday.

AMC Network is declaring a ratings grand slam. The show became the most-watched drama series in the history of basic cable for the Adult 18-49 year-old demographic. The finale was the most-watched episode drawing in over 4 million viewers in that group.

The network provides these ratings bullets for the finale:

  • 10pm airing – 4.1 HH rating with more than 6 million total viewers;
  • 10 pm, 11:00 pm and 1am airings – Gross audience to a 5.7 HH rating with 8.1 million total viewers;
  • Adults 18-49 - 4 million viewers;
  • Adults 25-54 – 3.5 million viewers.

Setting ratings records is quite a feat on a network that already boasts critical and ratings darlings like Mad Men and Breaking Bad. Of course, the show has already been greenlit for the second season, which will have twice as many episodes.

The show is also a favorite among deadbeats on the internet. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series is the most pirated TV show.

Meanwhile, Inside TV at EW.com has a post-mortem of the finale with creator/producer Robert Kirkman while the cast discusses the wrap up with MTV Splash Page.

And, of course, you can read Mania's review of the finale and discuss your reactions to it right here.

Walking Dead OWNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

kinetoscope 12/7/2010 7:31:19 AM

IM3 a sequel? Sure you can't get a team together and then not have them be in the other movies. My son asked that about Spidey and the Fantastic Four when he was younger. If they know each other why don't they help each other more. Why doesn't Spidey call the FF?

So it would make sense if Iron Man is fighting a bad guy wouldn't Thor come over and help?

Superman? Seems like a new issues daily.

joeybaloney 12/7/2010 7:32:12 AM

Zombies man. Whodda thunk? Nice to see the world catch up to us. Kudos Kirkman, Darabont and AMC!

Wiseguy 12/7/2010 7:42:44 AM

It sounds like Marvel doesn't want just continuity but one long arc running across all the movies. There's plenty of time for them to get the story and script together so I remain upbeat and very much looking forward to the results. Worse case scenario IMO is that if it fails they just go back to making individual franchises with little or no overlapping storylines or continuity. At least Marvel has the balls to go for it and that alone deserves lots of props

Can't wait to see the new Spidey take off already. Plus really can't wait to see what these new RED EPIC cameras do for 3D, it sounds like it's going to be an orgy for the eyes

Can't help but think that AMC blew a golden opportunity with Walking Dead. Will they have the same following, bigger, smaller. If people turn to the book will they loose interest by next October.

Calibur454 12/7/2010 7:51:45 AM

Walking Dead- I already have my dvd preorder at movie stop- Cant wait for march WALKING DEAD RULES

Iron man 3 news- the only bad thing is that we have to wait so long- I like that Favreau is doing this it just shows how much that he wants to continue the success it has. Looking forward to the avengers but I want to see a Bloody full length trailer already!!!

transformers 3 and thor video game- yawn- still interested in the thor movie though

The dark Knight rises- even if it is just a small apearance i think that the batcave in the last movie is esential for the Hardcore fans to see. In TDK the cave was basically an underground level of wayne's buisness to keep story continuity for the house being burned down in the first one. Personally I'd like to see it in the last movie

Spidey 3d- Yawn

Zimmer and Superman- Hardcore fans will be disapointed but I doubt many would notice to care

krathwardroid 12/7/2010 8:27:47 AM

I am concerned about those Justice Department vehicles in the Dredd photos. Should they look like that? It's the 22nd century in Dredd, so I would think they'd be in the style there.  I guess it's probably budget limitations. Anyway, I hope the movie is worth it.

Nice to know Batman may be going back to the Batcave in The Dark Knight Rises.

Yeah, so Iron Man 3 will continue on from The Avengers. Not a surprise. :P

axia777 12/7/2010 8:29:51 AM

Walking Dead, so far, is my favorite TV show of all time.  I cannot WAIT until season 2!!!!  O.O  Makes me even more excited for shows like Game of Thrones!

Iron-Man 3?  A sequel to all those movies?  Marvel rules.  This makes me wish even MORE that Fox and Sony had NOTHING to do with Marvel at all.  That way the members of the X-Men like Wolverine and other super hero's like Spider-Man could appear in the Avengers 2!!  >:(  That pisses me off royally.

I am with Wiseguy.  Marvel deserves the biggest props because of their efforts to make a cohesive Marvel Universe.  This is more than any other movie or media company has done EVER.

Also, that picture of Judge Dredd really gets me going.  Mega-City One baby!! YEAH!!!!

Superman movie?  Tell me when something concrete comes of all of that......

jfdavis 12/7/2010 9:19:56 AM

Ironman 3 building off the past movies makes sense and I approve as long as Ironman 3 stays Ironman-centric.  I know Favreau felt 2 was too much of an Avengers build-up. With that movie now off the ground...

Yes, Williams' theme is iconic but this being a reboot i think fanboys will be OK with it.  New Spider-man catoons don't use the equally iconic theme from the '60s . (And they've all sucked in comparison but that's neither here nor there...) Shirley Walker's Batman: TAS theme is better than the 60's theme but that's no less iconic... I think she did the Superman: TAS theme as well which is similar, not crappy, but not exactly the same. If the composer does something like that tact, fanboys will be more than satisfied. Or at least should be...

Maybe they can use Jerry Goldsmith's "Klingon theme" That would fit well with the Africa begining... (I'm being sarcastic but having too much fun with doing so...)

Was there any doubt that the WALKING DEAD would be anything but number 1

IM3 : i love what Marvel is doing it is a truly epic idea that they are trying to accomplish, I mean this is something that has never been tried before at least with any success, about the closes thing I can say is the ALIEN  and  PREDATOR franchises.  however that still isnt on the level of this undertaking 4 major properties combining to make another franchise and this is just the begining with prospective new additions such as Ant man and Black Panther, aswell as many others to come. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING

TRANSFORMERS: well at least we will get to see what it looks like so far , not holding my breath

DREDD: well I hope its better then the last one

momitchell7 12/7/2010 11:26:44 AM

I am seriously worried about the Judge Dredd photos that I've seen...
