Rick stepped up and killed Sophia because she was his responsibility.  He failed to protect her, and it was his weekness that caused her to be killed.  You can see it in his eyes as he shoots her how truly sorry he is and at the same time, part of him starts to believe what Shane has been preaching all this time.  Maybe his choices caused many lives.

My only real issue is that Hershel seems to know all of the neighbors and locals, heck by the overalls he knew the garage that the geek in the swamp worked at...but in all of the time that everyone was looking for a little girl that disappeared near his farm, he never once thought that the little girl that he doesnt recognize, that they put into his barn around the same time that this group showed up looking for her, MIGHT be the same little girl????

Anyways, an incredibly emotional ending to the midseason.  I loved every second of it....man how I wanted Dale to pull the trigger on Shane.  As a huge fan of the comics and a follower since issue #1, I dont mind the changes made.  It keeps me guessing each week and fully entertained...people just need to relax and enjoy the ride.  Otherwise, go enjoy some America's Got Talent or some other crap TV and leave us to enjoy TWD.

Whoa! Love the passion here. Didn't expect these numbers at this point, but glad to see the comment boxes filling up. I'll do my best to comment individually when I get a chance, and I'll be checking throughout the day.

Some great comments, valid complaints and interesting calls.

Still looking for more comments on who wins in the What If Darryl vs Shane fight. So far Shane is the favorite, and I'm with the majority there.

And yes, Rick kills Sophia because he does feel responsible, which makes him more heroic.

I don't think Shane froze at the sight of Sophia out of fear. He and the others did freeze though. Rick stepped up and did the hard work. It's easy to shoot nameless faceless zombies - especially when you believe you have righteous anger, but when faced with placing a bullet in the head of a previously innocent, and fairly battered little girl, who we all thought might prosper now that her abusive father was no longer alive, the mob couldn't make that hard decision.

Shane has made some hard decisions, and he does have points about Rick endangering the group, but Rick's errors can be chalked up to his humanity. Shane's flaws are because he's losing his.

It will be interesting to see how long Rick can hold on to what makes him heroic.

Darryl takes down Shane no problem.  He'd bite Shane's ear off and have it around his neck faster than you can say "Mike Tyson"!

Shane is cocky, Darryl is just bat-$#!T crazy.  Crazy wins every time.  :)

Oh, and for the record, Rick would take out Shane by out thinking him.

At least to think that the TV show has almost NOTHING to do with the comic helps a bit to accept these changes a little easier.

Having said that, I think the pace is still a bit slow and hopefully things get more agitated in the 2nd arc of this season.

And from what I hear...the next 2 comics of TWD ha some big stuff hapening...

I'm with millean on the Shane vs. Daryl.  I've seen many a cocky, strong, oversized man taken down by a quick on his feet, win at any costs little man.  Daryl grew up with a hard life.  That was shown in his individual episode.  And, I do believe, despite the social differences between the two, he is the more moral man.  He also can take on pain and still fight through it.  The guy had an arrow in his side, fell down a mountain and got shot in the head.  He is one tough country boy.

Trust me...I can see Daryl going all kinds of crazy on Shane.  Shane is all brute force when it comes to a fight.  Although, if he has a gun...he probably would shoot you.

On the one note....what really made me dislike Shane in this episode is not his chest thumping, but the fact that he is trying to turn Lori on Rick.  He has completely given up on pretense and has rekindled his relationship with Carl.  If anyone needs to be taken down a notch...it is Shane.

The changes made wouldn't be so bad if you actually cared about any of these mofos.  They are all pretty unlikeable characters and/or do sh.it that don't make sense.  Or even worse they are T Dog.  Seriously what the hell is that guy's purpose in this show other than to be the one black guy left in the world?

InnerSanctum 11/28/2011 12:43:35 PM

jedibanner:  I hate to say this, but the show does have a lot to do with the comic.  There are just a few changes in characters and some emotional punch that wasn't really seen until later in the series.  I think this is an opportunity for Kirkman and co. to rework some of the storylines that didn't quite pan out in the comic. At least, make it interesting for those of us who don't mind the changes, but relish in them.  And, the comic is slow.  It is about the survivors...not the zombies.  Complete issues go by with one single zombie.  Which is exactly like the TV show.  They are using the comic as a base.  Some scenes are ripped right from the pages of the comic and they are following the same path.  They went to Hershel's in the comic.  And, if you read the book, you know where they go next.  Are the two different?  Sure.  But, not like night and day.  Unless, you are a purist who thinks it should be page by page of the comic.  That would be a a painful ride if you felt that way about the show.  This is not the holy grail of stories...it is just a fun version of a graphic novel.
