a very happy no brainer lol glad to see AMC giving it thier all on on this show.

AMC has announced the renewal of "The Walking Dead" for a third season. Season two continues to deliver the strongest telecasts for any drama in basic cable history against Adults 18-49 shattering a basic cable record set nearly 10 years ago for a single drama telecast ("The Dead Zone"). "The Walking Dead" is based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics. Glen Mazzara serves as series' showrunner. Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert and Frank Darabont are executive producers. Greg Nicotero is a co-executive producer.
"Today we are pleased to announce that the 'dead' shall live as we proudly renew 'The Walking Dead' for a third season on AMC and, globally, with our terrific partners at Fox International Channels," said Charlie Collier, AMC's President. "We are thankful for everyone's contribution in front of and behind the camera as we continue to make 'The Walking Dead' a unique television experience. And, we are so proud as it continues to set viewership records around the world."
FOX International Channels rolled-out its global launch for "The Walking Dead" this weekend, with premieres on FIC's cable networks in Europe, Asia, Latin American, Africa and the Middle East. The series' international premieres delivered equally impressive results in all major international TV markets, and broke pay-TV ratings' records across the world. Over 10 million viewers in 122 countries tuned in live to watch the second season premiere of this highly anticipated returning drama. And, FIC will once again be the international broadcasting partner for the series with Entertainment One continuing to distribute in non-FIC markets.
Thanks to Chopsaki for the submission.

I have not watched it yet but have them on the DVR. When I saw the ratings I knew it was going to be a no brainer to renew it but I'm still curious if AMC greed to fire Frank and cut the budget in half will end up effecting it later in the season. I'm sure the things they are working off are for the first 6 eps or so are from what Frank had started.
So far I can't tell if the buget has been cut in season 2. It looks great. The zombie make up is amaing. What level of special effects do they really need? No CGI for sure. Except for maybe at the end of season 1. I won't say for what but it was definatly CGI. I am sure when DVD sales happen they will make tons of cash and then give the show more cash.
I also can't tell if the old director is gone either. So far it all feels the same. Huge props tp AMC.
@ axia777- agreed...totally awesome! I hope they start doing some more stories from the Comic's!!!!
Just caught ep 2 last night as I was away. Much better moving than the first episode. But I like the direction this show is going. As a reader of the comics I'm not bothered by the changes at all. I can't wait until they introduce some more of the characters I like too.
FYI my wife for our anniversary bought me the Walking Dead: Rise of the Governor. I have to say it was a pretty good read. I saw they will be releasing more novels covering backstory for others. Looking forward to more.
Bryzarro - The novel was great and gave so much more information on the settings and characters. They can describe so much more of the bleak situation that they are in over just a graphic novel or television series in one condensed story. I love the way that WD is expanded over many mediums now. And RULES in all the mediums that it has branched out into. More Walking Dead please.
Sweet! I"m glad to see this renewed early probably another 13 episode season. I'm glad to see the show balance character development over zombie attacks... but man some solid intense zombie attacks. Having read all of the books i'm glad to see this keeping the tone of the books despite a slightly new direction/characters/situtation. I'm not that surprised as the books are really quick reads they have fleshed things out. As long as Kirkman is on board producing and if the level of quality doesn't dip below the 1st two for Season 2 we are in for a wonderful run.
YES!!! This is awesome. Season 2 has been shaping up to be the a great one. The last episode was great and really dug down into the charater's. It even had serious action at the end of it. This is seriously great news for genre TV. Now if they could only do a dark Sci-Fi cyber punk show someday on some channel that repsects dark materials like AMC....
