The Walking Dead: A Review

Final Episode of the Season!

By Hanso     March 31, 2014

The Season 4 Finale!

As we saw in the finale, Rick’s only motivation in the zombie world is his son.  We’re treated to flashbacks back in the prison days where Hershel (nice seeing him back) urges Rick to put the gun down and pick up farming tools for the sake of Carl.  The war was over, now it was time to farm and spend quality time with his son. While Rick didn’t agree, somewhere along the way, probably around the time he saw the kid playing with Legos and Carl working on his gun, Rick knew Hershel was right and he became Farmer Rick in order to raise his son.

Unfortunately, Farmer Rick is the hero that The Walking Dead deserves but not the one it needs right now.  Right now it needs I’ll Bite Your Throat Off Rick.  The safe haven of the Prison is no more, Rick and his crew are out in the real world where people like Joe’s group exists and that means kill or be killed.

Joe’s group still looking for revenge over the guy Rick killed finally catch up to Rick, Michonne & Carl.  Joe is about to kill Rick when Daryl steps in to vouch for them saying they are good people and if its blood they want to take it from him.  Problem is Daryl according to Joe is lying which breaks one of Joe’s rules so he is sentenced to death by beatdown.  Meanwhile one of Joe’s men grabs Carl and it seemed like he had a “I want to rape you” look which was creepy to say the least.  Rick ain’t going to stand for that so he fights back.  This entire scene was pretty awesome, especially right after Joe shoots next to Rick’s ear and the sounds goes out for a bit.  The look on Rick’s face it seemed like he was turning into the Hulk but what we were watching was the death of Farmer Rick and the rise of a Rick who will chew Joe’s neck in order to survive and protect his friends & family.  Yeah, Rick just bit a guy’s jugular off like it was nothing, and then the rest of the group finishes off the remaining of Joe’s men except for therapey guy holding Carl.  That one was Rick’s to finish off.  The whole sequence was pretty brutal, and it was made a little more disturbing after the fact when we see Rick ain’teven broken up about it.  It seems Rick has come to peace with what must be done in the zombie world to survive, which is good for us but bad for any one that tries to mess with Rick and his crew moving forward.

The next morning Rick, Carl, Michonne, and Daryl head out to Terminus and finally someone shows some common sense on this show.  Unlike Glenn, Maggie and the rest of them who walk in through Terminus front door, Rick and the gang hide a stash of weapons outside Terminus and scope the place out, entering through the back door where they meet Terminus’ leader, Gareth.  After some introductions, Gareth sends them for some barbecue.

Rick notices a watch, poncho and riot gear and knows something ain’t right so he pulls his gun out and a shooting happens with the Terminus residents shooting at the floor instead of Rick and the gang in order to guide them thru Terminus to exactly where they want them to go.  Here’s the interesting thing, as Rick and them were running they went thru a creepy room with names on the floor, lit candles and the words “Never Again, Never Trust, We Always First” written on the wall.  What’s that about?  Also, as they were running through another area you could see fresh human bones lying on the ground.  Is that were the Terminus residents get their meat?

Anyway, once Rick, Carl, Michonne and Daryl reach the end of the line, Gareth sends them all into a train car.  Inside was also Glenn, Maggie, Sasha, Bob, etc.  Looks like they didn’t get the greatest welcome to Terminus either.  So there is everyone locked inside a train car, with armed people waiting on the outside and Rick not a care in the world.  I would’ve loved if Rick pulled a Walter White and just turned to the group and said “We’re not in the danger, WE ARE THE DANGER.” Instead he goes with “They are going to feel pretty stupid when they findout……they are screwing with the wrong people.”  BOOM,the season ends with badass Rick ready to lay thesmackdown next season.

So, what did you think of the episode?  Disappointed that we didn’t get a major death, no signs of Beth or Tyrese& Carol?  Leave your thoughts on the comments below and see you next season.

I thought it was good ending to the season. I see Terminus as another two episode distraction when next season starts. I have a feeling you will see a few deaths to kick-off season five. Also, I am very excited that Tough-As-Nails Rick is finally back in the show. Season 3, Rick suffered a mental breakdown. Season 4, just not playing with a full deck. Now Rick has some purpose, and this is the Rick from the comics who is almost implaccable. I have a lot of hope for the next season. Hopefully they won't screw the pooch and they actually do get on the road to Washington D.C.

Okay, so, I believe your review was written in 5 minutes with little to no thought on how EPIC this episode actually was.  First, no mention to how they went back to the "flashback" technique from the first couple of seasons?  That, I thought was masterful!  Also, the flashback went back to a "happier" time.  Or, actually, a point where Rick shifted from survival-mode to surviving-mode... big difference.

Second, if you paid attention to the man holding Carl down, you hear a zipper sound.  Yes, the man was trying to rape Carl.  That's what set Rick off.  As in the comics, as in the first three seasons, everything for Rick is about saving his family.  He gave them a chance to stop.  They refused.

Third, no mention as to the significance that Daryl was willing to lay down his life for Rick?  That's huge!  Daryl has left Merle totally behind.  He HAS changed.  Perhaps in a way that Herschel tried to change Rick / save Carl.  Daryl - as we've seen during this 8-episode arc HAS changed and wants to live life, not just survive.

Fourth, when the gun shot goes off BY RICK'S EAR, the moment in time is not Rick "changing", he was stunned by the sound of a gun GOING OFF BY HIS RICK.  Hence, the ringing sound?  You heard that, right?

Fifth, this entire scene is taken directly out of the comic.  That was a nice addition... as well as TERMINUS.  it might not be in the comic as such, but the whole situation is.  Plus, it's been amped up by including the entire gang.  (In the comic, Dale is still alive and he is the one eaten.  It was a cool scene.)

I believe the room is a memorial.  Names of those who have died there are written everywhere.  And the saying on the wall.  it's their mantra.  I think that's pretty self explanatory.  Everyone's been following a promise written on posts along the train tracks.  Now, they get there and the mantra changes:  "we" are more important, than "you"... welcome to the BBQ!

Episode should be an A-.  Rick's final statement:  A

Yeah!!! Badass Rick is back. Loved the last line. Rick has this crazy grin on this face (and his "new" brother" Darryl when he said "they just screwed with the wrong people." Love the cockly confidence. Too bad this isn't n HBO show as he would have said "they just fucked with the wrong people".

And yes, that creepy guy wanted Carl that way. Joe said "when he's done with your boy". I don't think he meant killing.

As for Terminus, it's pretty obvious it's cannibals/cult.  I guess boxcar A is the new cattle to arrive. Rick her some help sounds from another boxcar when they were running around. Cries of help. I'm guessing that's the main course car. The names on the floor, probably this creepy cult honors the victims for filling their bellies.

I noticed Rick looking on the ground before entering the boxcar and the camera pointed out garbage. Lots of empty food packages. No doubt, to show the prisoners were well fed.

I sure hope they have a flashback episode of how the first group got herded into the boxcar.

Hey dough54321.

Not everyone here has read the comic and some of us are working on them right now.

Thanks for the spoiler dumbass.

With the track record of this show, half of season 5 will be in that train car.

I agree that was an excellent way to end the saeson. I like the chgange in Rick and I love the ultimatum that comes out of his mouth: "They are screwing with the wrong people!" Now as with all these shows we will have to wait forever and a day to have the new season.

And did you guys notice it was Denise Crosby, the lovely Lt. Tasha Yar of Star Trek:TNG,  who was cooking up the human vittles?

That had to be the fastest hour long episode I have ever watched in my entire life. I was sucked into it from the start. I think this exposed is a solid A not as intense as other episodes where I was like oh shit don't kill anyone but I loved it completely. Rick is gonna bust some mother fu@king he@ds next season and I'm stoked and pumped. Now wait till bad @ss rick and bad @ss carol link up this will be an epic reunion and duo.

I  like the episode a lot, my only real problems were in the direction of the actors and the choreographing of the fight scene. I have choreographed fights on plays and short films, and this could have been done a lot better. When Rick faceplanted Joe, instead of a spinning around and floating for a while to start engaging, he should have instantly jumped on Joe. the bear hug looked pretty awkward, and then stairstepping everyone elses action instead of it being quicker snaps of Michonne taking charge and the badguys standing there waiting to be offed was a little contrite. It could have been better done.

I  was also underwhelmed by Daryl's arguement when he showed up. Even if it wouldn't have done any good, it might have aloud enough distraction for him to provide more of a fight than get whipped around like he was. This is BADASS  DARYL  for Christ's sake!

My bigger disappointment was for Talking Dead, did it seem to anyone that Chris was really cowed to not ask better questions? Geez! One I  would have loved to have asked is if it was Carl's imminent rape, or Joe calling Daryl a LIAR and proceed to having him killed (mirroring the Governor calling Rick a LIAR and cutting off Herschel's head) that REALLY  triggered the savage-within-him response.

Again, I  like this episode a lot, but it felt more like a season opener, whereas last week's would have been a good finale, leave you feeling all good but creepy.

All I  know is, with new the new and improved CRAZY  Ricktator white bread on one side, and LOOK-AT-THE-FLOWERS Carol nutty oatgrain bread on the otherside, Terminus Mary better have a recipe for a Sorry Cannibal sandwich for season 5!

Joe was ignorant of the fundamentals of close quarters hand to hand combat. "If an opponent has you in a bear hug from the front with your arms pinned, go for the targets of opportunity."

Well the scene when Rick flips out and kills the guys while not even being anle to stand up, just by using his teeth and hatred, was AWESOME. The way he takes the big bowie knife from Joe's body and says "This one's mine" and stumbles in front of Michonne's gun, towards the guy holding a knife to his son's throat, then stabs him, stabs him, stabs him again, then opens him up like a pig, chops him off a little, stabs him again in the heart, then some little stabbing, then stabs him some more... and all the while the sound of the knife entering flesh... stab, stab, stab, stab, stab... almost hipnotic... do not mess with this guy because RICK'S BACK!!!
