Despite rumors of a Wanted sequel being developed even before the original 2008 film struck theaters, all has been relatively quiet on the next installment until this week. Screenwriter Derek Haas let the cat out of the bag by revealing to his Twitter followers that Universal Pictures has officially brought the writer and his partner Michael Brandt back on board for another adventure.

TheWrap caught up with him shortly after for more details and the writer obliged briefly with a hint towards the storyline by suggesting it will "take off after the events of what just happened. Pick up Wesley a few years later and go back in for another round."

When asked about whether Angelina Jolie would be back or whether that Loom device from the first film plays a heavy part in the story, Haas responded with a negative on both.

"To answer 2 questions I've been asked today: our draft of W2 will be Fox-less and Loom-less," Haas responded to the fans.

That seems to go in line with Angelina Jolie's logic, who said at a Salt junket last year that when her character dies, they should stay dead.

"Being dead makes it difficult," she confirmed. "They were (trying to bring me back) but I kind of feel like if I die in a movie, I should die actually. I'm that way, and that character is not as complex as Salt. It would just be doing the exact same thing in another movie, so it's not that interesting to me."

Thanks to Chopsaki for the submission.

Wasn't a big fan of the film or the comic. But the comic at least was so vulgar that it was mildly entertaining even if disgusting and unredeemable, which is pretty much all we get from Millar most of the time.

Coincidentally I just rewatched the first Wanted last night.  I've actually enjoyed it more the 2nd and 3rd viewing because there are a lot of nice little script touches in the 1st half of the movie.  I'm on board with dropping Angelina too.  Get an actress who does not appear as a leathery skinned skeleton with boogie board lips.

I liked the first movie, just don't think it was worthy of a sequel.

I enjoyed the first one and, if memory serves, there was room for a sequel at the end of it.

I like the stay dead mentality Jolie has.  Makes sense to me.

Who cares about Jolie.. Really they can have other characters and all they needs is James McAvoy to return and continue his story. He's got the hype from Xmen 1st Class .

They can always bring back Terrance Stamp's character too. Kneel before Zod !

Though I watched Wanted a second time last month, it just happened to be on tv and I was at the beach and it was raining, I really was not a fan.  I admit I liked it a little bit more than I did the first time, but I still think it was a subpar movie.  Just seemed kinda cheesy and hokey.  Campy even in some parts.  Couldn't believe Morgan Freeman would accept that roll.  Maybe he needed the money.

BTW, Gears of War 3 is the tits!

I really dug the first movie, I had a lot of fun watching it. I bought the graphic novel afterward and did not like it as much as the movie. I do like the superhero and supervillain aspect of the novel, but I actually like the story told in the film more and I like the character arc of Wesley in the movie. I agree, I think Angelina looked awful. After reading the book, I would have liked to see Rhona Mitra play Fox.

I thought the Loom of Fate was interesting and I think they should bring that back into the story. And yes!!! Bring back Terence Stamp, he's badass in everything he's in.

I did not enjoy the movie.  The movie the trailer gave me was completely different from the movie presented in the theatre.  I had expected this:  a mystic league of assassins chosen by Fate is given the call to assassinate people by the Loom.  Their powers they possess allow them to manipulate Fate - to make the impossible possible.  They can bend bullets because of Fate.  They can perform incredible, if brief, feats of strength or agility because of Fate.  They have perfect timing because of Fate.  The main character awakes to his abilities - Fate has chosen him because his father has died.  He becomes a member of this group of assassins because he has inherited his father's legacy, and must now come to grips with what he is.

This would make so much in the movie make more sense!  This is what the trailer fed me, and I think would have made a much better movie.  Predestination versus Free Will.

She had a great death scene, no need to ruin it.  Sheesh.
