Warner Bros. Pictures is eyeing an early 2007 start of production for CONAN THE BARBARIAN, a new take on the Robert E. Howard created character.

Boaz Yakin (FRESH, REMEMBER THE TITANS) has been asked to write and possibly direct the film after his pitch impressed the studio.

Yakin's concept is reported to be more faithful to Howard's story than were the two previous Conan films which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as Conan.

More faithful or not, I hope its more gritty and less comical. I've never seen a comic or book on this, but loved the first movie, though its aged a little now. The second was just to silly and hokey. Bring on Conan. And no Diesel, please.

Please no muscle bound meatheads who have absolutely no acting ability.. Wrestlers can't act.. the Rock is the only one that comes close and he still is a B-rate actor.. They need a top notch actor to make it a sucess. And since there are really no actors jacked enough to play Conan.. someones going to have to see Barry Bonds for the hook up.. if you know what I mean..

Why does this movie need a top notch actor, please don't tell me arnold is a top notch actor. Don't get me wrong, arnold is the man but his movies are very cheesy. Triple HHH would be perfect for this role and this movie, which if you haven't seen the orginal in awhile, its very cheesy. If anyone saw the last wrestlemania, HHH came out wearing a very conan looking outfit and looked great in it.

This is going back to the source material and being more true to THE STORY. Hell I liked the 1st Conan film as much as anyone, it was at least some kinda of fantasy on film that we never had before. Now, with today's expectations and success of more true visions of book committed to film it would be nice to see a faithful adaptation of Conan! CROM!!!

The first film was amazing. It was beautifully done in every aspect (except for a few special effects which were limited by the technology available during that time in the industry). Schwarzenegger was a perfect Conan. Sandahl Bergman, Gerry Lopez and James Earl Jones all turned in fantastic performances. The costuming, weaponry and sets truly reflected the tone of the story. I'm blown away every time I see it, but my most favorite part of the movie was indeed the score. Basil Poledouris composed the music for this movie to perfection. It was full of pounding drums, brassy horns, expertly crafted around the action on screen...and yet floating flute melodies danced through the lighthearted scenes giving it an exotic feel. Each time I hear it, I swell up full of breath and exhale exhilarated. I want to unsheathe my sword, mount up and charge off with Thulsa Doom's army each time I hear that driving bass drum line. He managed to capture the feel of a whole different world with his music, by in large the biggest factor of this film's appeal for me. If Warner Bros. does in fact re-imagine this film and begin the franchise anew, they'll need to acquire a composer with the ability to do what Basil Poledouris did for the first one. I for one am waiting anxiously to see what develops of this rumor.

I haven't been able to put down the original Robert E Howard Conan stories since I first found them last year when they were re-released as three large collected paperbacks. I really like the Arnold movie but the books have so MUCH more to offer. NOT A re-make, but a new start with the right director could be as big as the lord of the rings trilogy.... And please.... by the mighty hairs on Crom's toes.... do not let it be Vin Diesel!
