Undoubtedly hoping that lightning can strike twice, Warner Bros. has optioned a trio of childrens books called the Eddie Dickens trilogy and tapped screenwriter Matthew Huffman to adapt the first volume, A HOUSE CALLED AWFUL END. Shades of HARRY POTTER, anyone?
Similar in nature to the LEMONY SNICKET books, the Eddie Dickens trilogy is a fanciful kids adventure high on slapstick and farce. When an 11-year-old British boy named Eddie is sent away to live with his mad Aunt and Uncle (Eddie's parents are very ill with a strange malady), his new guardians turn him over to St. Horrid's Home for Grateful Orphans and forget about him. There at the orphanage Eddie leads a charge against the authorities and organizes the other children to act unruly. The book was written by Phillip Ardagh.
Jason Lust and Lawrence Mattis will produce the picture. Mattis is the head of Circle of Confusion, a management/talent agency. He's also credited as the fellow who developed the Wachowski brothers while they worked on THE MATRIX.
