I'll see your "won't suck" and raise with a "Hopefully it will be good."

According to ICv2, Warner Bros. is the place that now has the rights to create a live action version of the 90's anime hit Ninja Scroll. The property had been previously developed by Threshold way back in 2002 but never saw any movement. While no director has yet been attached to this feature that was originally directed by legendary Yoshiaki Kawajiri, the script is being written by Alex Tse who is currently best know for his work on the Watchmen script. Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way is producing along with Madhouse Pictures and Jungo Maruta.

All I have to say is it better be R rated. There's no reason what so ever to target a young audience. The original film was violent, and this should be as well. I hope they are able to do all the creatures and characters justice.
As a make up artist myself, I have seriously always wanted to see this movie done live! Really looking forward to it!
This is one of those movies I have never got around to seeing. I might have to rent it or something.
The original movie was slightly above average. I didn't see the TV version of the anime but heard it was toned down from the movie. We'll see on this one.
Who knows? They're trying to put the kid gloves on killer cyborgs from the future so why wouldn't they do the same here? These people know how to take the magic out of a franchise.
Dazzler you should definitly check this out. It's got all the good stuff you would expect from an anime. It plays out very well. I only have a few selections of anime in my collection and this is one of them. I checked out the series and it fell short. If WB can give the reins to somebody that will take it full bore than maybe it's got a chance. The problem with them is that they usually want their people to prove themselves before letting them loose on their lot (Nolan, Snyder, Eastwood, etc.) Hopefully they'll see what happens with the Street Fighter and Dragon Ball movies and learn from them.
So now that comics are a well established tapped resource are they going to the anime section of their local Blockbuster and looking for material? If so when will they get off their asses and get Ghost in the Shell moving?
The only reason the original is "slightly above average" is because it's old as dirt now. When comparing it to a lot of the stuff we've seen in the interim it's not what it used to be, but you have to remember the original film is pretty old now, and you have to watch it like it's 1993. That was before the revitalization of the martial arts film genre in the west, and before anime really grabbed hold of the western consciousness the way hit has in the mean time. The original was pretty ground breaking at the time.
The sequels and TV show were just terrible.
My question is why the hell did the Wachowskis adapt Speed Racer as opposed to this or Vampire D? They could have really fleshed out the narratives in either of those stories, and instead they went with Speed, that damned monkey in the ball cap.
i have ninja scroll and it was dam good GHOST IN A SHELL a must see as well but as for ninja scroll hope they dont screw this up
It's about damn time! If they do this right (heh heh) this could be great. Some many cool baddies in that movie. Forget the series - stick to the original movie!
And I'm with Scythe - Vampire Hunter D should be right after this one....
HOLY SHIT! now THIS is worth commenting on. Ninja Scroll LIVE??? that is so insane i cant even imagine it, and when i do..... i nut myself. o_o
I wonder if theyll show Tesai licking Kagero's snatch..... hahaha
Hopefully it wont suck if they make it.
