Warner Bros Takes on JONNY QUEST

A few months after JETSONS was announced as prepped for a live action adaptation and long time after SPEED RACER began production, another 60s toon is coming to the big screen courtesy of Warner Bros. Variety is reporting that the studio will be adapting the old Hanna Barbera toon, JONNY QUEST, for a live action version set for the theater sometime in the very near future. Even though the show only lasted one year in 1964 as a primetime slotted program, it had quite a large following in later years being revived in the 80s and having a DC comic named after it.

HITMAN producers Adrian Askarieh and Daniel Alter will be producing on the adaptation while Dan Mazeau writes the script.

And who was the guy who suggested this, here...in a online post??? (beat) Me, that's who!!!

Good to see the studio guys are listening...but one thing...give us a movie that is as hard and ruthless as the original show!!!

Hollywood has been trying to get this made for over ten years and have had scripts written already.

Once Speed Racer was given the green light, I knew that it was only a matter of time before this cartoon was sparked again.

lol Okay...Why not..

Thank you, metalwater, for being the true source of inspiration for this project getting greenlit.

Thank you for suggesting the concept in a random article here sometime in the past and then having a Warner Bros executive read said advice from you here and think aloud in a sudden brainwave..

..."You know what, that Maniac Metalwater has the right idea! Jonny Quest it is!Cheerio!"

Thank you....Thank you.....Thank you?

Sounds like a Venture bro's ripoff to me.

And who will play Hajee? Kal Penn? I always kind of grooved Johnny Quest.....silly but fun....I hope they use the Reverend Horton Heat version of the theme song from that Saturday Morning Cartoon album from the mid-90s.

Props to you, metalwater! As for you guys suggesting that twentysomethings playing Jonny & Hadji, NO NO NO! You've got to cast age appropriate for this to work: that would be like casting a VentureBros. pic with the boys being adults. Any casting suggestions here? Mine are Gerard Butler as Benton Quest, Karl Urban as Race Bannon, and the guy who played the heavy in Mortal Kombat (Cary something) as Dr. Zin.

My friends and I have talked about this many times. I know a lot tof these cartoons turn out to be really awful live action movies, but I think this could be great if it's not made in a comical, send-up fashion, but a serious and hard-edged action film.
