The cult comic Elfquest is preparing for the big screen courtesy of Warner Bros. and Richard Thurber. The trade reports Thurber (Dodgeball) will write, direct and produce the adaptation of the comic created by Wendy and Richard Pini. They don't know whether it will be an animation, live-action or CGI yet.

Plot Concept:
The original comic, which the Pinis initially self-published starting in 1978, followed a tribe of elves known as the Wolfriders in their attempts to survive and link with other dispersed elves on an Earth-like planet with two moons while on the lookout for tribes of humans and trolls, both of which acted as allies and enemies.

YES!!! I picked this series up many, many moons ago when it was still a little independent comic and loved it. It had great storytelling, art and a wonderful magical sense and I thrilled to the stories of Cutter,
chief of the tribe, his loyal inquisitive friend Skywise, and the other members of his Wolfriders who you got to know intimately. Also his wife Leetah who he was destined by elfin Recognition to be with and their
children. I would tell anybody who would listen about it. It got very popular during the mid-80's and was one of the biggest independent books out when Marvel and DC had the market cornered. There was talk of an animated movie then but it never happened.

I hope the Pinis are very involved in this and (as always) it is done right.

I have the comics from the first arch of the story. Food stuff. I lost track after that. It could go either way.

I remember this comic, but I never really read them that much. Good shit I love to see fantasy movies. I am excited about this.

This could be good. We need more quality fantasy films. Ride the LOTR wave people!

Yeah, sure. I'll believe it when I see it. Hasn't this been in Development Hell for the past 10 years or so? Also, I'm just really skeptical when anyone not named Peter Jackson tries to make a movie that's remotely swords & sorcery-ish. We'll see...

I'm down for this. Big fan of fantasy. PJ did set the bar pretty high with LOTR which is the primary reason most of the fantasy films that followed haven't been well received. But sooner or later we'll get something worthy, it may be The Hobbitts films. Still looking forward to this, Conan and maybe even Red Sonja.

This one's been in development hell for loser to 30 years. I remember hearing back in the mid-eighties about an animated Elfquest.

I'm all for fantasy movies, but couldn't we please get a real one made? I'm tired of animated fantasies and children' literature (Harry Potter notwithstanding). There are a lot of good movies to be made if someone would realize you have to do them right. Dungeons & Dragons and In the Name of the King are not done right...

Oh man, I'm sounding like an internet fanboy, I better go.

Loved the comics when I was younger so I'm a little worried about this being turned into a movie. Hopefully the Pini's will be heavily involved in the production. Who knows, this could stay in development hell for another 10 year.
On a side note, did anyone else see the Elfquest Album that was put out, independantly I assume, in the early 90's? Songs based on the characters from the comic. I listened to it once and it wasn't my thing but was impressed that the creators tried something different.
