Warner Bros and Zack Snyder making "Army of the Dead"

By: Karl Schneider
Date: Monday, March 26, 2007
Source: Variety

According to Variety, Warner Bros. and Zack Snyder (300) will team to make a zombie action-thriller, Army of the Dead.

The film, based on an original story by Snyder, is set in a quarantined Las Vegas in the not-too-distant future and revolves around a father who tries to save his daughter from imminent death in a zombie-infested world.

Joby Harold has signed on to write the script, there is no word as of yet if Snyder plans to direct the film.

KJ's Take:  Two zombie films reported in one day.  Ugh.  At least this one will have a big budget and some decent FX.  Funny how now that Snyder has 300 as a smash hit, studios are willing to throw bags of cash at him.

Loved Dawn' 04 and loved 300. I'll be anxiously awaiting both Watchmen and this Army of the Dead,

That`s kind of how it works in Hollyweird KJ. Studios like everyone else, apart from the British, love a winner.

I love zombie flicks, so I'm down like George Bush's approval rating.

Is it just me or does this sound like a mish-mash of already slated or very recent zombie flicks? The 28 DAYS LATER sequel concerns a quarantined area, the new RESIDENT EVIL takes place in a post-plague, zombie populated Las Vegas, and a major plotline of the second RESIDENT EVIL focused on saving the professor's daughter who was in the zombie zone.

I hope this comes AFTER Watchmen! All I want Zack to concentrate on now is bringing the Moore/Gibbons classic to the big screen. I'm a little tired of the whole zombie genre, unless omeone brings something new to the creative table.

I could watch zombie flicks all day. With the vacant, non-ironic eyes and all.
This could be OK.

I am a giant fan of the zombies man.

Anyways Hell I even just had a dream about killing zombies last night. Bring on the zombies!

I'll turn a "jaundice eye" to another zombie flick. "LAND OF THE DEAD" was awful.

I'm throwing my support behind this film as well, what little effect that'll have.

I really like Snyder's work and am interested in seeing what he'd do with an original flick.

If its about as good as Gunn's Slither, I'm happy.

I really enjoyed the Dawn remake. I still haven't seen 300, but I'm planning on it. I really like Zack's style of movie-making -- and his "vision". It's fresh and exciting...a bit like when Michael Bay came along with "The Rock" and how he redefined the "action" in "action flick". Finally, my feeling is that Zack is doing another zombie movie just because he likes zombies -- and it's gonna be good. It's as simple as that. So far, I'm pretty much ready to watch anything Snyder throws at me because -- yeah -- I'm sold.
