If you have a warm place in your heart for the 1979 action flick THE WARRIORS, you're not alone. Apparently there are enough fans out there harboring a secret affection for this stylish but somewhat silly Walter Hill film about a gang from Coney Island framed for the murder of a charismatic street leader, trying to survive the night in NYC and get back home before they're caught and executed by rival gang members. With its bizarre but kind of cool street thugs dressed up in outrageous costumes (like the members of the Furies who are decked out in their Yankees baseball outfits), THE WARRIORS may have come and gone from theaters but it made an impression on the minds of those that grew up in the age of the first STAR WARS films. There are plans for a remake and GRAND THEFT AUTO video game maker Rockstar Games is even working on a game based on the movie set for release next spring.
Sensing the zeitgeist, last month toy maker Mezco announced plans for a series of action figures based on the characters from the WARRIORS movie. The first wave of released photos of the figures hit the Mezco message forums this week, giving us looks at five of the line including Warriors members Swan, Cleon and Cochise, two of the baseball Furies and Luther, member of the Rogues and a deadly rival to the Warriors.
Click on the link to dig the rest of the photos. Mezco's WARRIORS figures will hit store shelves sometime in 2005.
