Halloween Television Preview

What are You Watching on Halloween?

By: Jarrod Sarafin, News Editor
Date: Tuesday, October 30, 2007

The Halloween holiday is upon us and various television networks are kicking it into overdrive with their horror-themed programming schedules. If you're a horror fanatic, like me, you probably own all of the horror films that you truly love and don't really need to watch some of these films on television. Still, these marathons are sometimes self-indulgent affairs, airing movies which you would never own but wouldn't mind catching on the tube here and there. You will be doing something around the house and will just set your television on one of the marathons as an afterthought. At various times during the holiday, you may just get sucked into watching some of them.

As such, I'll provide some schedules as a resource for you horror fans. If I miss some programming, add them into the comment section for our fellow Maniacs to see or just discuss what you plan to do on Halloween...Which movies in your collection do you plan to dust off and watch during the holiday? What are your plans?

I'll begin with a reminder on the Charlie Brown classic.

Truly a classic Charlie Brown episode.

Forgot to add it into the article so I'll just add it here...

I don't have much planned for Wednesday. We already had our Halloween Costume Party over the weekend and it was a wee bit hilarious. Jello-shots filled with Vodka made for some good times for the people attending. :)

Not sure what I'll be doing but I'm thinking of dusting off my Carpenter dvds and starting there..Perhaps, watch a few Nightmares and one or two of the Alien/Predator films. Definitely the 1st Predator from McTiernan and Ridley Scott's Alien...Haha.

Possible Movies to watch on Halloween:

1. The Thing
2. Halloween
3. Ridley Scott's Alien
4. John McTiernan's Predator
5. Nightmare on Elm Street
6. Friday the 13th

I really wish AMC was playing Silver Bullet or Night of the Living Creeps. I know they're total cheese but those are two cheesefest I sorta enjoy viewing every year around this time..

And yes, I bet I get sucked into watching some of the various Halloweens. I don't own anything but the original 2 but I can watch Halloween 3, 4 and 5 when they air on tv every year.

To go along with the spirit of the season, I'm going to be adding some great horror clips into our Video section. I'll start with two great scenes from American Werewolf in London and the "Norris Transformation" from Carpenter's The Thing. If you also have some favorable horror clips, feel free to add your own.

The Changeling (starring George C. Scott) is a good Halloween movie addition for those liking a good ghost story. I like that AMC is showing all of the horror movies, but do they have to insert so many commercials. I remember when AMC didn't have commercials, and now they have more than other networks.

I own the Great Pumpkin, just because you can never get tired of looking at that...gotta love the classics...

AMC used to be a cool network, and some of their movies this year have been noteworthy, but it just seems that there are those that are out there that have been missed by all of the networks...

Night of the Demons
The Changling
Silver Bullett
The Thing
Young Frankenstien (hate if you want to)
Dracula (Frank Langella in the starting role)
Brian DePalma's Dracula
Love at First Bite
Squirm

....just to name a few

I have to agree with Night of the Demons--angela was frightening and that bit with halloween apples at the end......wow

back when VHS was in vogue, i went ot he rental store and picked up a little italian b horror movie called "The Church" (La Chiesa). Man today istill think that movie does a great job with atmosphere.

For Haloween any of the classic Vincent Price movies are also great, as are the Hammer films and the Amicus anthology films.

Why would I hate "Young Frankenstein"? (errrr, I mean "Young Franken-shteeen")
