WATCHMEN Holding FRESH

When the first smattering of 'Watchmen' reviews came online last week the Rotten Tomatoes meter for the film trended overwhelmingly positive. Now as more reviews pour in from the mainstream, the movie had dipped closer to the rotten line.

It currently stands at 65% FRESH, with 161 reviews counted.

You, dear Maniac, will be seeing the movie this weekend, if you haven't already. Let us know what you think about it. Post your reviews and impressions in the comments area below!

Three more WATCHMEN character clips online

The final three 'Watchmen' character clips aired on NBC channels last night. Now they're online at NBC.com/Watchmen.

Look for videos featuring The Comedian, Silk Spectre II, and Nite Owl at the site.

Attention L.A. Maniacs!

Warner Bros. landed the Owl Ship at Universal City Walk last night and it'll rest there until Sunday March 8th. Head over and snap some photos of the super flier and send them in to us here at Mania.com!

According to WB's announcment, visitors to City Walk will be able to go right up to the door and look into the Owl Ship, whose electronics will be on and functioning

It was a logistical feat to bring the Owl Ship to City Walk, as the full-size model weighs in at approximately 10,000 pounds and is:

  • 21 feet & 2¾ inches long
  • 13 feet & 2¾ inches wide
  • 11 & ½ feet high

Review: WATCHMEN video game

From MTV.com:

"The game’s a bimbo: it has the looks, but not the sophistication. “Watchmen” the comic — I haven’t seen the movie and can’t compare — was no bimbo. A smart comic has turned into a two-player co-op brawler. It’s a beat-em-up"

Thanks to Antonello Blueberry for the submission.

Who Wakes Up With the WATCHMEN?

Kids on Saturdeay mornings in the 1970s or 1980s perhaps...

Who Laughtracks the WATCHMEN?

Is America ready for 'Two and a Half Watchmen'?

Who Hates WATCHMEN?

Somebody has seen the movie and will not abide the liberties taken by Zack Snyder!

(CAUTION: this video does contain SPOILERS for both the ending of the film and the graphic novel)

Who Attacks the WATCHMEN?

I think Hitler hit the nail right on the head. Fuck Zack Snyder (he should change his name to Zack Schumacher), fuck Hollywood ruining the classics, and fuck this movie. No doubt some room full of producers somewhere at some point have pondered just how much crap we will take when it comes to screwing with our beloved stories, and guys, let me tell you, this is it!! Never again, I'm done, I'm out, screw somebody else out of their 12 bucks, I quit!!!

violator14 3/6/2009 9:04:52 AM

Does that mean u didnt like it? haha

Darkknight2280 3/6/2009 9:15:00 AM

WOW Samurai1138 get a life..lol I mean the movie was great no one could have done it any better then he did. Are you sad becasue there was no GIANT SQUID?? How lame would it have looked to see that on the big screen, all the diaglog came straight from the book and sure there were a couple small liberties taken to make it look not too hokey on the screen (i.e. GIANT SQUID!!!) The movie was GREAT. You are definatley in the minority on this one and if not, then its time to step out of your mothers basement and breath some fresh air and realize that adapatations will never be 100% true to the story it came from NEVER HAS and NEVER WILL. Even the Dark Knight wasn't. I think Zach Snyder deserves a hand for this movie..Good Job Sir! :)

This movie is AWESOME!!!!!!! The only ones who will hate on it, are those who hated onthe idea of it being made, and hated it before they even saw it. All of those who proclaimed it as "UFILMABLE" will hate it because their minds aren't open to the idea. IF you want the exact Watchmen story as is, READ THE MUTHERFUCKER!, if you wanna see a kickasss movie version GO SEE THIS MOVIE! Its awesome, and no one could've handled it better than snyder.

Dave Gibbons is co-creator, and he was involved from the start and it has his stamp of approval. I love Alan Moore, but he is a freak, he doesn't approve of much of anything because he lives in his own little world. Zach Snyder CLEARLY respected the comic, and his adaption is nothing short of spectacular!

And for those who say any comic is unfilmable, BULLSHIT!!!! A comic bok is essentilly a fucking storyboard.

Haters are gonna hate, THEIR LOSS, because they can't get over their preconcieved notions and enjoy this flick for what it is.

Suckers!

gauleyboy420 3/6/2009 10:30:52 AM

That hitler shit is hilarious, and the best part is The Haters will be like Right on, Hitler hit the nail on the head!

But they are too stupid to realize that whole bit is making fun of crybabies who are gonna cry that it is not an exact everysingle word right out of the book adaption! Boo friggin hoo

Samuri, that Hitler bit that you are agreeing with so much, is really making fun of you.

Here'e an unbiased opinion from someone who doesn't salivate at the mention of Watchmen and like many "mainstream" comic book readers don't consider it the best comic book ever written, the film is great and at worst is damn good. I for one love the squid being out (one of the things I hated from the book). Ans Snyder is a master IMO but I've been saying this since 300 and DotD. I loved most of the changes, they were well thought out. The action, the feel, the atmosphere, the acting, the cast, everything all was excellent with the exception of leaving out the Smashing Pumpkins (that went so perfectly with the theme of the film in the commercial & trailer).  Probably the only thing I wasn't completely satisfied with was the ending, I would've preferred a more loyal ending instead of something that seems to suggest a possible sequel. And having a dick on camera that much just isn't right :) even if it's cgi.

Bottom line I agree with the mania grade of A-. The film doesn't "own" but it "rents with the right to buy"

Well as someone who read the book series 20 odd years ago and has no great love of it i will say it was an entertaining movie...the movie did lack for the layering of things the series put down and exposed for the rest of the tale..i'm still one of those who would rather have seen it done as a HBO maxi series or along those lines..it just felt so contained.

And the ending...?

So no squid..big deal...Manhattan as the proxy was ok enough.

Still i can tell from the crowd I was watchin with..its not gonna be the ultimate blockbuster most think it should be. And it's not cause people don't get it. Its cause  the message is understood loud and clear and honestly has been understood by the general viewing public for a while. I get the idea most fanboys who salivate over the movie seem to think the outside audience to Watchman clueless as to what it presents and the truth of it is..it's old hat been there and done that...

It wasn't great though. And dont' waste  yakkin at me over it, just my opinion.

Just i can't help but remember what the comic book vendor i used to pull from used to say about all the hype over the story..

"..it's a good read but only a suburban geek would call it GREAT!"

Wasn't really sure what he meant till lately...

Anyway, everybody..just turn off the inner geek or hateration and go watch the damn movie..its still a worthwhile film.

Or go see the Jonas brothers in 3-d and really test your intellect...lol!

The same people that are going to bitch about the squid being gone are the same people that bitched about the X-Men not wearing cheesy blue and yellow spandex. Do people not realize that movies are a different medium than comic books?

everdreaded 3/6/2009 12:05:46 PM

Well i think people are makin headway..LOL

if you ever see anything adapted to something else.. and you are expecting it to cover all the bases you'd best get it clear IT WILL NEVER BE 100% faithful..the mediums don't work that way , not even supposed to.

And as nit picky as fans get  i just think they expect too much in adaptions..or want too much and need to realize transition is always gonna bring some change..its all about doing my right things and hoping they overcome the things missed or omitted.

everdreaded 3/6/2009 12:07:07 PM

i meant doing as many right things...damn typoneese..
