Han and Boba Movies for Disney

EW reports on rumors

So we already had a Yoda Movie rumor this week (see story here) from Ain’t it Cool News. Now, a more reliable source, is reporting that there will be a Han Solo movie and a Boba Fett movie. Any and all details could change, but this is the story for right now.

Entertainment Weekly has learned details on two of the spin-off projects: A young Han Solo saga, focusing on the wisecracking smuggler’s origin story, and a bounty hunter adventure with Boba Fett at the center of a rogue’s gallery of galactic scum”.

Here are the details on the Han Solo movie. Hopefully it will not feature Shi LaBeouf.

The Han Solo story would take place in the time period between Revenge of the Sith and the first Star Wars (now known as A New Hope), so although it’s possible Harrison Ford could appear as a framing device, the movie would require a new actor for the lead — one presumably much younger than even the 35-year-old Ford when he appeared in the 1977 original”.

Here is what is known about the Boba Fett film.

The Boba Fett film would take place either between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, or between Empire and Jedi, where the bounty hunter was last seen plunging unceremoniously into a sarlacc pit. Exactly who would play him isn’t much of a complication – in the original trilogy, he never took off his helmet. And in the prequels, we learned he was the son of the original stormtrooper clone, played by Temuera Morrison, who’s still the right age for the part if his services were required.

Joe Johnston (Captain America, The Rocketeer) has stated that he has an idea for a Boba Fett film. Robert Rodriquez (Sin City, Machete) has also recently stated that he would jump at the chance to direct a Han Solo movie.

These films also open up the possibility of featuring characters such as Darth Vader and Jabba the Hutt again. The possibilities are endless.

OK, Rodriguez doing Han Solo could be badass, as long as he leaves any political statements out (or at least weave it more subtly into the story - I'm lookin at you Machete).  As for who would play him, I'd hope someone a little more rugged and with a similar (because Ford's was distinctive) voice.  I just can't think of anyone off the top of my head.

Some are asking for Joseph Gordon-Levitt Han Solo. I say it might be a good fit. He does kind of look like Ford, but younger.

What do you all think of the idea?  I think it might be a good fit.

Give it a rest nemesis1_57 2.  Geeez.  They can make them all and do it well. Disney is handling Marvel with style and grace. Star Wars will get the same treatment. With much respect. Never thought I would ever say this, but Disney FTW.

Can we also get a Jabba the Hut movie?? Where he's smoking his bong, and molesting girls for 2 hours??

Garrett Headlund from TRON for young Han Solo??????

"Boba Fett!?! Boba Fett!?!"

Agree, with Nemesis. Don't do so much SW just to make lots of wupiupi (Huttese money). Take it easy please! I'd rather they made maybe the proposed SW TV show and another animated series or straight to DVD animated movie.

I also wouldn't mind an Indiana Jones animated series. An artist named Patrick Schoenmaker has done some fantastic drawings for a cel-animated series that would be great if Disney did it. You can google for them. Since its a cartoon Harrison Ford could do the voice and age wouldn't be a problem.

Ya know, in the Expanded Universe, there is an excellent story about Han & Boba, their origins, and how their hatred for each other came to be.

It was called "Tales of the Bounty Hunters", and the particular on them is "Last Man Standing: The Tale of Boba Fett". The story centers on their early life, how they first met, and then bounces back and forth through Empire, Jedi, and ultimately 19 years later after SW, with them at each other once more.

The story is only about 70 pages long, and you could probably find it online in PDF form. The collection is one of the best I've ever read, fiction or non, and each story captures the reader. It sheds light on all those iconic characters, those Bounty Hunter scum that somehow, someway, were called uponn by Darth Vader himself.

"Everyone dies. It is the final and only lasting justice. Evil exists. It is intelligence in the service of entropy.  When the side of a mountain slides down to kill a village, this is not evil, for evil requires intent. Should a sentient being cause that landslide, there is evil; and requires justice as a consequence, so that civilization can exist. It is said correctly that the law exists not for the just, but for the unjust. For the just carry the law in their hearts and do not need to call it from afar.

I bow to no one, and I give service only for cause."

-Jaster Mereel, the man later to become known as Boba Fett.

If that captured your interest, go find the book!
