Warner Bros. has picked up the rights to a yet-to-be-published spy novel called THE TOURIST, says the Hollywood Reporter. The spy story is an upcoming novel by Olen Steinhauer but the manuscript for it has already been prepped for production by George Clooney's production company, Smoke House. Both Clooney and his partner Grant Heslov will produce the thriller under their banner.

Plot Concept: The story is described as being a contemporary international thriller in the vein of John le Carre and Graham Greene and follows a spy who must risk everything to reveal a conspiracy after he's suspected of a murder he didn't commit.

Ah crap. When I saw the headline to this article, I thought Hollywood was finally going to film the scifi script "The Tourist" that was bouncing from studio to studio since the 70's.

George Looney is such an ass...This guy is so full of himself and thinks he is gods gift to everyone However he is good at what he does and has been in so who knows but still an arrogant, pompous ass...And then I could be wrong and hope one day to work with him in order to have a big name actor play a part in one of my movies in order to find funding and sell more tickets because of him,LOL...ya, right...

I do not agree, i really appreciate when peoples try to use their position for do the good ! I mean the guy use his name to figth the war crime in darfour, maybe is promotion, but at least it s for the good, actor who only make paparazzi happy is useless....

Gee, there's an original idea for a movie. A spy is accused of a murder he didn't commit then must clear his name while uncovering the conspiracy that fingered him in the first place... Never seen anything like that before.

mlaforcer, I couldn't disagree more. I like Clooney. I think he's got more on the ball than 90% of the celebs out there. But everyone's entitled to their opinion... even if they're wrong. :-p

Sounds good to me. Maybe if they make it more coherent than Syriana it'll get good word of mouth and more people'll see it.

Clooney comes across as genuinely humble. Whether it's an act or not. I like that and I like a majority of his work save for Batman & Robin. Which is a film Clooney continues to apologize for 10 yrs after the fact.

I do agree with you mlaforcer. I've been coming to mania/cinescape for years now and it's very seldom I do. Clooney is an ass. He comes across as "genuinely humble" because he's an actor... it's his job to portray what people want to see, but like you Flint521466 I do like the majority of his work.

fft5305 it is funny how Clooney is going off on the sucess the Bourne trilogy has had, but I don't see how you can say that Clooney is on the ball. He thinks Hollywood is responsible for the civil rights movement!!! haha! I guess you're fine with being wrong ;oD

Is Clooney an ass? Only to the Nth degree. I don't know what's worse: hearing him jump on various social and political campaigns or hearing how the press and paparazzi cater to him. Makes me want to puke.

The plot for this film sounds more stale than bread left on the counter for a week. How do spies get caught up in so many frame-ups where they must exonerate themselves?
