Warner Bros. has picked up remake rights to South Korea's surprise hit The Chaser, reports Variety. The original South Korea thriller by director Na Hong-jin had its remake rights sold to the studio for 1 million plus various incentives based on the remake's box office performance. Kim Su-jin, head of production house Bidangil Pictures, will also receive a co-production credit. Warner is negotiating to assign a screenwriter and producer to the project. In South Korea, the thriller has earned 20 million in 20 days of release thanks to strong word of mouth from audiences and critics.

Update: William Monahan is in discussions to adapt the film.

Leonardo DiCaprio is circling the lead role of an ex-cop who goes on the warpath trying to find a missing girl. The girl, who may or may not be alive, is being used by a serial killer to taunt the police. Leo also received critical acclaim for starring in the remake of Asian film Infernal Affairs (Departed) which was also adapted by Monahan.

Plot Concept:
The film is based loosely on the exploits of a real-life serial killer, played by Ha Jung-woo (Never Forever).

I forgot what the original was called but I know i've seen it, how many South Korean movies are about a real life serial killer out there, but I do know it was chilling and off the hook. It was an awesome movie. I might have to check my Netflix history to find out again. It's kind of weird that they'd remake a true story set in a different country, I wonder if they're going to go The Departed route or actually set it South Korea.

Never mind, the movie I was talking about was called Memories of Murder; about S.Korea's first recorded case of a serial killer. It's awesome check it out.
