If you haven't seen Ken Russell's ALTERED STATES movie, then you're missing out on the best sensory deprivation tank movie ever made. Russell's 1980 film featured William Hurt in his breakout performance as a scientist obsessed with unlocking the unfathomable mysteries of the human mind and our origins. When he finds an unexpected and highly dangerous way towards achieving results, things get hairy. Literally.
Due to its mature subject matter ALTERED STATES isn't shown widely on television, which may be a factor as to why Warner Bros. wants to remake the psychadelic film for the new century. The studio has hired screenwriter Fernley Phillips to create a new script using Paddy Chayefsky's novel as his starting point. No director or acting talent are yet attached to the project.
