WB's MARVIN THE MARTIAN Flies to the Big Screen

By: Jarrod Sarafin
Date: Wednesday, July 30, 2008
Source: Variety

Marvin the Martian will be traveling to theaters in the near future, likely with the intent on blowing up the Earth once again, reports Variety. A new feature film blending live-action and CGI is reported to be in the works for Warner Bros. and Alcon Entertainment. Producer Steve Crystal, a former WB executive who has a first-look deal with Alcon through his Charlie Co. shingle has been developing this project with intents to release it in the Christmas season.

Crystal will produce alongside Alcon's
Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove. Chuck Jones created the character and had his first appearance pop up on "Looney Tunes" in 1948. Crystal is looking for writers and a director.

Plot Concept: The story revolves around
Marvin coming to Earth to destroy Christmas but being prevented from doing so when he's trapped in a gift box.

Commercialism and political correctness have already killed it (Xmas). Next.

But really, I'm sure there's a lot more to this, and maybe it could really be good, but it doesn't read that way. Being a fan of the SHORTS...I guess you could say I'm intrigued, but doubtful for this as a feature film.

WOW I wonder how this is going to turn out.

I can just imagine how that pitch went...

"yeah, we don't exactly have a script or a vision, but we know we wan it to deal with Marvin going to Earth to destroy christmas, but then we'll stop him by trapping him in a gift box. somewhere along the way he'll discover the true meaning of christmas and stopping a bomb he previously set. should leave us all with a good feeling that anyone (even cartoons) are redeemable."

they should cast black mage as marvin.

Marvin has always been one of my favorite cartoon characters, so I am very interested to see how this turns out.

Ugh. Looney Tunes should have just been history once Mel Blanc died. He did all their voices and no one has really been able to do them justice since. Believe me, I would love to have new Looney Tunes keep coming out forever, but it's just not the same. I'm just glad we have the old ones on DVD.

Funny I went to Great America on Mon and won a Marvin doll, the only thing I came away with. Must be a sign.

Seriously, why? This idea should have been blown up with the Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator before it got to this point.
