What They Say
Channel ATV is in serious trouble. With viewer ratings at an all-time low, they’ve got to come up with an amazing gimmick, and fast, or else their sponsors are going cut their funding! But a whirlwind is headed for ATV in the form of one Keiko Nakadai – a substitute weather girl for the prime-time news. In one quick flash of her panties, the ratings are sky-rocketing! Thanks to the public’s overwhelming support of Keiko’s brazen tactics (not to mention her gorgeous body), she’s finally secured the bright and sunny future she’s always wanted. However, there’s a dangerous storm brewing on the horizon. Michiko Kawai, ATV’s former prime-time weather girl, is furious that Keiko has stolen her job, and she’ll stop at nothing to get it back! But poor Michiko may have bitten off more than she can chew because Keiko’s soft exterior hides a nasty vicious streak, and she’s not about to give up her dream job so easily. Japan’s airwaves are about to get a whole lot hotter this year!

The Review!
An awesome body and a vicious personality make Keiko the most dangerous weather girl on TV.

For review purposes, I listened to this show both in Japanese and English. The Japanese audio was a fairly typical mix with clear, distinct audio, but nothing special in terms of use of the stereo mix. The English dialogue was similar, with some fairly flat sounding vocals.

The transfer is straightforward, with only a couple of instances of rainbows and a bit of pixelation that I almost didn’t notice. The source material is starting to show its age. It’s a low-budget OVA, after all. Colors are a bit dull in places, but nothing out of the ordinary. The ending credits are in Japanese, which means a white text on black background extra ending for the translated credits. It’s one of the more amateurish credits I’ve seen, with typos and very poorly aligned text.

The front cover uses an image of Keiko showing off her body in a tight leotard while doing the weather, with a smaller image of Michiko off to the side. Blurbs are written down the side like newspaper taglines. The background colors are light blue. The back cover continues the newspaper theme with several images of Keiko showing off her body for the camera, and the cover blurb off to the side. The disc itself uses the same image of Keiko as the front cover. While the concept of the packaging is good, the light blue that pervades it seems to rob it of any impact.

The menus are simple in the extreme. A list of menu options is on the left, with a picture of Keiko on the right. That’s it. No animation. No music. Just select and enter. The scene access menus are clever with a man walking in front of a bank of TV monitors in a brick wall, each one being one of the scene options.

Extras are minimal. A small art gallery features some promotional artwork as well as a small selection of screen images. There are also previews for a few of TRSI’s other series.

Our first introduction to Keiko Nakadai is watching her masturbate in the women’s bathroom at ATV, the struggling television station where she works in relative obscurity. Meanwhile, Michiko Kawai, the station’s regular prime-time weather girl is taking a day off. She selects Keiko to replace her after seeing a rather dowdy picture of her in her employee records. Unfortunately for her, Keiko is a ravishing beauty who has hidden her good looks, waiting for just such an opportunity. She makes the most of it, innocently flashing her panties during the broadcast. The response from the viewing public is overwhelmingly positive, and the station manager decides to keep her as the regular weather girl.

Michiko is outraged, but seems to accept her fate. But she’s not one to take this humiliation lying down. She plots revenge against Keiko, but Keiko’s a devious woman and she’s seemingly always one step ahead of everyone. Michiko’s plot backfires on her, leaving her in Keiko’s cruel clutches.

In the second episode, Michiko is now Keiko’s personal slave, doing everything from cleaning her apartment to performing oral sex on her. Enter Kaori Shimamura. She’s beautiful and very intelligent. She’s been in France for the past year, but she’s back in Japan, and ready to resume her position as ATV’s prime-time co-anchor. She and Keiko get along like oil and water, but despite some rather nasty tricks, Keiko can’t seem to best Kaori. Kaori and Michiko conspire to bring Keiko down, but Keiko is smart enough to counter their nasty tricks with even nastier tricks of her own.

Based on the manga by Tetsu Adachi that inspired not only this anime but a movie as well, Weather Report Girl is more inter-office politics comedy with a bit of naughtiness thrown in than outright porn. There is a bit of sex, ranging from solo masturbation scenes (including Keiko getting off while watching Michiko humiliate herself on TV) or some girl on girl action, but they are secondary to the insane stunts that Keiko, Michiko and Kaori get up to. The comedy mostly works for me, being silly and over-the-top. The character designs are another matter. While the women are all attractive after a fashion (those are the most dangerously pointed chins I’ve ever seen), the men are extraordinarily ugly, drawn with very simian or porcine features. It’s a fun show with an actual plot and some hilarious scenes. Get it if you want a good comedy, but not if you’re looking for full-on hentai action.
