Some more insight from Sigourney Weaver has appeared online in relation two high genre profile projects on the horizon.
As a main star in the, Alien and Ghostbusters franchises, the actress has more than a passing interest in what goes down around their mythology. While promoting her latest film Prayers for Bobby, Weaver talked to TV Squad about both franchises and the latest rumors around her characters.
Alien
When recent Alien rumors appeared online saying that Ellen Ripley would be a character in the 20th Century Fox prequel, a lot of fans were left scratching their head on how the iconic character could be in a prequel to the events that took place in the first film. It seems that Sigourney Weaver agrees with those questions and has voiced her concern about messing around with her Ripley character's history.
"Well, I don't think that Ripley could appear in an Alien prequel because she doesn't have any access to the creature until the first Alien, "says Weaver on the rumors. "But Ridley (Scott) is producing it and that makes me happy. I wasn't thrilled with the whole Alien Vs. Predator thing."
Ghostbusters 3
While promoting "Prayers" back in March, Weaver told Mania that she's open to returning to her Dana Barrett character in Ghostbusters 3 but she has doubts on whether her role will be written into the script, which is rumored to center on passing the batons to a younger group of ectoplasmic fighters.
“I don’t know about Ghostbusters. I hope that if they do another one, they’ll put Oscar – my son – in it,” said Weaver.
She also told TV Squad the same deal and confirmed her hopes that her character's son Oscar will be in it.
"I think they're trying to create something new completely with the Ghostbusters, although I know Bill is in it. I hope my little son Oscar (from Ghostbusters II) is a Ghostbuster! ... I don't expect to have anything to do with it, although I wish them well."

You could have Ripley in a way where she wouldn't know about the alien. But there would be a lot of separate scenes - telling two separate stories.
