After helping Hobbits in Lord of the Rings, fighting mankind in The Matrix and stirring revolution in V for Vendetta, actor Hugh Weaving is ready to take on The Wolfman, reports Variety. The thespian has been cast as Detective Aberline in the upcoming remake of the horror classic for Universal Pictures. Benicio Del Toro, Emily Blunt and Anthony Hopkins are already on board as starring while Joe Johnston is ready to direct. David Self did a rewrite of Andrew Kevin Walker's script. The movie is produced by Scott Stuber, Mary Parent, Sean Daniel and Rick Yorn. Production begins next month in London.

Plot Summary: Based on the 1941 original that starred Lon Chaney Jr., the new film will be set in Victorian England. The Wolfman will hit theaters Feb. 13, 2009.

I wonder if he'll wear a black suit and sunglasses as he tracks the Wolfman down the rabbit hole.
Actually,I think Weaving would also make a great Sherlock Holmes.

I still thought this movie was being filmed liek a year ago. i remeber a picture of Benicio sitting in a truck with a red hat on. Am I tripping on that? Anyway, I think this is a good casting choice. Hugo is a great actor, but does anyone remeber Hugo before he got big? Like The Adventures of Prascilla Queen of the dessert where him, Guy Peirce and Terrance Stamp all played drag queens. Or Reckless Kelly with Yahoo Serious. He's come a long way baby.

yeah, he has come along way, but what a great resume.

Interesting. "Detective Aberline" was one of the real-life Scotland Yard detectives involved in the "Jack the Ripper" investigation. Wonder if the new movie is establishing a link between the Wolf Man and Jack the Ripper?

Whiskey

I think you are right, sort of - if I remember correctly, Benicio got hurt before the filming was to start and that delayed the movie.

As excited I am about this movie, lets look at what has happened:

Benicio got hurt, in which, movie is delayed.
A new Director has been brought on board.
A rewrite of the script has already been done.

Now, that is only three things, but those are pretty huge. Especially the last two. Now, I am not saying this movie will not be good, but at what I am looking at it's not feeling right..... :(

Azul I thought that and then I saw PIGORMERS and felt sorry for him. But I guess he had to offer some aide to the flaming boat.

i'll let him slide for that sonyman, because everyone deserves a mulligan once in a while. besides megacrap was more like an extended cameo, rather than a major character.
