New Line Cinema's 1998 film
THE WEDDING SINGER is getting the Broadway treatment. It was announced today by the movie studio that the hit Adam Sandler comedy is in the process of being transformed into a Broadway musical set to debut in the 2005-06 season. The play's musical score will be composed by Matt Sklar with lyrics by Chad Beguelin. Tim Herlihy, who wrote the screenplay for the movie, is collaborating with Chad Beguelin on writing the stage production booklet. Margo Lion, whose last partnership with New Line brought the Tony Award-winning
HAIRSPRAY musical, will produce the
SINGER production.
"Like
HAIRSPRAY,
THE WEDDING SINGER is a natural for the stage," said Michael Lynne, Co-Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer of New Line Cinema. "We're tremendously excited to have so many talented involved in the project."
THE WEDDING SINGER isn't the only Hollywood vehicle Sklar and Beguelin are turning into a musical: the duo are also working on a musical version of
GET SHORTY.
