I love everything Vess does...his art is right out of every little kids head and made real...well deserving grade.

The pic of Vess's artwork above does look really nice. I'd really like to see more. I wonder if Barnes & Noble has a copy.

The Apocalypse Door also looks good.

I took David's advice (ddiaz) and picked up The Lies of Locke Lamora. I'm loving it. It doesn't start from Locke's perspective, so in the first few chapters you find yourself wondering when the bigger plot will begin. But the character / world exploring base makes the rest of the book much more intriguing. People have called it a swashbuckler, but there's a lot The Godfather in there. This isn't about saving the queen, it's about tweaking the nose of the local crime boss and stealing from the politicians who benefit from secret crime deals... but even that's not what it's completely about. It's just very good.
