According to Variety, Wes Craven is planning a new project which will be released by Rogue Pictures and plans to begin shooting next spring.

"It is rooted in the supernatural with a 16-year old central character, but it's more 'Sixth Sense' than a slasher film," said Craven. "It's appalling to me that you have to go back to 1994 to find an original that I wrote and directed, so this is very important to me."

Rogue, the genre division of Universal-based Focus Features, is also eyeing Craven-directed titles Shocker and People Under the Stairs for possible remakes Craven would oversee with the new company. Both films are Universal-owned library titles.

Wes, I'm glad to see you getting work in the genre that launched you. I am not as glad to see this new film doesn't appear to have Freddy Krueger in it. That's saddening. I almost feel like crying...

(Pain Don't Hurt, Dalton. Remember... Pain. Don't. Hurt.)

As for the remakes.

"Shocker" is one of the most goddawful movies I've ever seen. (No love for Ass. Director Skinner.) Please don't remake it. There are starving people all over the globe who could use the $10 mil you'd spend on it.

"People Under The Stairs", on the other hand, is a classic. And one that could only have been made in the gangsta-rap climate of the early 1990's. Don't fuck with tha good shit.

Seriously, I'd really like to see a new Freddy film. With digital technology at the point it's at, a new "Nightmare On Elm Street" could be mind-bending. But if they did, Freddy couldn't remain the wisecracker we've come to know and love. (That shit is just not scary.)

Leave Shocker alone. It was a great movie. A remake in this day and age would be awsome. And Ass. Director Skinner rocked as a villian. But I will not be too hard on you as Road House was one of the best.

Wes Craven's work is very chaotic in the last ten years. One minute he is attached to an absolute stinker, the next he brings out something fresh and original, that actually works. So that is where this one lies, it could be fresh or it could be sh*t. However, why "the Sixth Sense" genre, hasn't every director in Hollywood gotten the message that no one is ever going to recreate the magic of that film, and when you start saying your going to you are guaranteeing fans a disappointment. As far as the remakes go, I'm game if they are done well, but I agree that these two should probably be left alone.

I have an idea for a horror movie. How about the story of a hollywood horror director who starts off creating original, disturbing classic horror movies that help define a genre. Then, as the years pass, the politics and business of Hollywood slowly deteriorate the directors talent and sanity, eventually leaving him a shell of a great man who can no longer create, and is left watching his past successes and determined to find his lost ability by remaking them.

"Shocker" was a fine movie, just a little too much dialog and plot setup. I'm still waiting for a "Freddy vs. Jason" sequel, here's hoping. The first one was a blast and fun to watch, and I haven't experienced a good fun horror movie in ages.

spiderkeg...I'm still waiting for a Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash (Bruce Campbell starring of course)...but I welcome something new..

If anyone recalls, back then the studio asked Craven for a horror franchise. They wanted their own Freddy Krueger. His answer was Shocker. Bing! end of the road! I personnaly liked the idea but I don't know what Wes has been smoking for many many years... You see, in his resumé, many films start promising and then end up in farces, the guy mixes horror and humor like I would mix jell-o and cement... I don't watch his movies anymore... which is sad. Anyone wants to remake Craven botched movies? ok. but make them shit-in-your-pants-SCARY!

Oh, for the love of Sam..."Shocker" was shockingly BAD. Geeze, people...I know Craven's a legend, but c'mon!
