You're right ElBaz.  If you look at the rost of Avengers over the past 40 years, there are so many ways to go.  My choice would be Black Panther.  Hell, introduce him in Avengers 2 and spin HIM off into his own starring vehicle.  Sort of the reverse of what they've done with the first movie.

I would like to see an "Acts of Vengeance" arc; Loki, Red Skull, Doctor Doom, Magneto, Kingpin, and Mandarin vs. Avengers (for extra fire power bring on Vision, War Machine, Spider Man – will never happen though). The Siege storyline would be cool too; however, both might be too epic if they're going for a different feel in the sequel.

I've read a rumor that Loki's army are the Atlantians, and that Namor will have a large role in the sequel. Of course only a rumor. Thoughts?...

"By not trying to. By being smaller. More personal, more painful... By being the next thing that should happen to these characters, and not just a rehash of what seemed to work the first time. By having a theme that is completely fresh and organic to itself."

Amen. Good luck to you Mr. Whedon. Looking forward to this.

Kadet2002- Atlanteans would call for lots of under water sequences, and I just don't see that happening.  I also don't think Marvel Studios would have been able to keep the casting of Namor under wraps.  It would have leaked.

I don't see RDJ leaving any time soon either.  Now that he doesn't have to constantly wear loads of heavy and uncomfortable gear while shooting, he doesn't have to worry about his age impeding him.  CGI and stuntmen do all the heavy lifting for him.  All he really has to do anymore is perform.  RDJ has been in the public eye since he was a teen, so typecasting isn't an issue.

A rotating cast of heroes is a good idea, but any Avengers movie needs to keep Cap, Iron Man and Thor at it's core.  I wouldn't be surprised if Black Widow and Hawkeye were switched over to the inevitable SHIELD movie franchise to make room for new blood in the sequel.  As for who that might be, there are a few easy options.  The leaked details about Edgar Wright's Ant-Man movie indicate that the character will be Scott Lang, and that there will be a sequence involving Hank Pym handing over the Ant-Man tech to him as he moves on to other persuits.  This frees up Pym to become Giant Man/Goliath.  This years Avengers movie clearly features alien technology, much of which will be lying around New York for SHIELD to secure and analyze.  Ms. Marvel/Warbird got her powers from an explosion that occured during an experiment on captured alien technology.  Post credits origin sequence, anyone?

Wish, fellow Whedonite, never have truer words been said about man. If his name is attached to it, I'm there no matter what. He is a master of storytelling. I wish to hell he would make more movies in general.

@Wyldstaar, good point. I guess it would take a lot to set up the Namor backstory. So, Kree? Or remnants of the Frost Giants? Possible Thanos introduction at the end of the credits?

Opening weekend at the IMAX for me!

Tallman: The same thing happened with Green Lantern. They green-lit the sequel before seeing how the first movie turned out. I have more faith in this film, but that kind of thing ALWAYS makes me wary.

I just hope the sequel shows Black Widow's boobs.
