While Joss Whedon's upcoming horror fantasy Goners has apparently been shelved by Universal Pictures, the producer-director has said that he will begin working a new genre film called Cabin in the Woods. The man behind "Firefly" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" told MTV that he will be working alongside screenwriter Drew Goddard ("Lost", Cloverfield) , who chimed in on the new project below.

"It's genius, it's funny," Goddard said about the film. "It's got a harder and darker edge, but it's also got classic Whedon qualities. It'll rip your heart out and be heartfelt at the same time."

"There's a reason the title is so straightforward," Goddard added. "It’s its own sub-genre, the cabin in the woods, and this is sort of our take on it. It's fresh and new."

Whedon also has a new television series hitting Fox in January called "Dollhouse", which stars his former Buffy co-star Eliza Dushku.

As far as I'm concerned, it's almost a certainty that no matter what Joss touches, the chances are better than great that it'll be good. It's a shame that Dollhouse is going to be on Fox. If there's any constant in this universe that prevails, it's the fact that Fox LOVES to cancel stuff, practically before the first episode is even finished showing. Or they'll screw with it like they did Firefly. Here's to hoping history doesn't repeat itself. Again.

Hi, all...
Joss here, remember the 90s? God that was a great time, but alas, gone are those magical days of yore when the fanboy collective at large could have their imaginations delicately held by a teenage coming-of-age story about a slayer, a sister, and their quasi-hot lesbian witch-neighbors.
Now Im forced to crank out tripe like "Goners," which was so accutely bad that the execs at Universal (fox isnt the only studio full of whedon-haters) stated that they would rather suffer through intestinal parasites than give it a greenlight. When I showed the spec script to one suit, he literally began hemorrhaging bile from his nose just from touching it.
So now Ill churn out some flacid attempt at horror that will not only be widely despised by genre fans, but also offensive to outdoor enthusiasts. And cabins. And woods. And people who like words and phrases.
But wait! Hope springs forth anew! acidsquall, would you, by chance, be a high level studio executive? Perhaps at Disney? NO?
DAMN IT! Somebody kill me. Please.

Umm...wow. I've never seen someone put so much effort into posting a flame as "Whedon1".
Did it take you long to create that account? Did they miss you at work? Oh wait...DO YOU WORK?

I, Joss mother flippin Whedon, managed to squeeze in enough time between composing the bangin intro song from Firefly and the 33rd rewrite of Wonder Woman to open this account 9 months ago. And for your information, I do work. Read the article above. Im helping Eliza Dushku eat. Now go and buy Buffy season 3 fantard, I need an "Asian" massage and a bottle of Ripple to make the golden ideas flow forth from my stunningly brilliant brain. Dig?

You should note that Recent linguistic research has suggested that non-pathological disfluencies may contain a variety of meaning. The frequency of "uh" and "um" in English is often reflective of a speaker's alertness or emotional state. Thusly, as a studied master of Shakespeare's english, I can infer that you are a dim witted, buzz-killing c**ckblocker w/ a piss poor sense of humor. Think twice next time you crack on a screenwriting genius, son.

And here I thought it was just a Verbal Pause to gather ones thoughts,
or in this case to show bewilderment.

I'm a big fan of Whedon too. Love Firefly and Serenity.

Wow. Where the hell did THAT mess come from?

And why do I suspect the refrain "who wants to know 'bout me?" from Jimmy Ray's song is silently coming into play here?

Love Buffy. Love Angel. Love Firefly\Serenity. Would love Buffy herself, but there's that pesky thing called restraining orders and something about a distance of a thousand feet or something like that. Really wasn't paying attention at the trial.

Alien Resurrection had a gay ending. Didn't Joss write that crap? I liked Buffy and Angel, enjoyed the Serenity movie, but the stuff isn't genius.
