"The film has taken a drubbing that it doesn’t deserve, but it’s still just a solid murder mystery devoid of the sort of horror, fantasy, or sci-fi elements one might expect."

Watching the trailer I couldn't help but think how disingenuous it was. It litterally looked like a sequel to the John Carpenter movie "The Thing". If someone saw this trailer I could see how there expectations were let down. I've read the comic but have not seen the movie so I really can't comment further.

Shit I thought it was about vampires.

I agree with Matador, from the trailer I thought this movie was about vampires. Maybe a sequel to 30 days of Night. Guess not...

This movie must be really bad, no one has submitted the spoiler to themoviespoiler.com yet, usually it only takes a day or so for one to show up. may have to add this one to the redbox list.

I knew based on the early negative press this movie was recieving before it came out that it wasn't going to do the graphic novel justice. Which is sad because the book is really good. I let my fiance read it and she was hooked so I gave her some more of Greg Ruckas stuff, specifically Queen and Country and she fell in love with it. Greg Rucka has never written a bad comic in my opinion. I have all of his stuff and even his filler books are really good. Whiteout the movie is a damn shame, I hope it doesn't hurt the adaptations of his other works.

While I agree there is nothing wrong with liking it if you choose...this was just a so-so movie IF and I stress IF you can get past the obvious flaws.

I'm guessing you have not lived through too many winters as to the reason you didn't point out the walking around like its 30 degrees outside rather than 50 below zero.  Let a Midwest boy enlighten you and let you know if you are ever in sub zero weather you will want to bundle up...scarves, goggles...not one part of your skin exposed.  I mean the director didn't even direct them to look cold...its the freaking Artic for Christ sake.  He even stressed more than once how cold it was yet didn't have the actors act it.  Not to mention how irritated your skin would be after being out in that...lots of red faces.

I think your review suffered from the same problems the director had in dealing with an elemental you don't have much experience with.  It was very easy to see they filmed this on a sound stage and that's where their failure started.

Yeah, but the book is still good Hobbs, you should read it. The people bundle up in the book.
