The Review!
Managing an independent grocery market means a lot of hands on melons and other fruits.

For our primary viewing session, we listened to this show in its original language of Japanese. The show has a standard stereo mix that you get with adult titles in that the bulk of the dialogue is center channel based but has a good full feeling to it. Some of dialogue does have some minor directionality to it but it's the music that makes the most use of them in giving it a full feel. Dialogue is clean and clear throughout and we had no issues with dropouts or distortions during regular playback.

Originally released in 2004, the transfer for this show is presented in its original full frame aspect ratio. Similar to other shows of this vintage, the transfer is in excellent shape and its reflected well through the authoring process as the colors look great and mostly maintain a solid feel. There's a bit of a digital gradient issue showing up in some of the backgrounds which has a visible blocky feel but the majority of the large color areas look good and solid. Cross coloration and aliasing are essentially non-existent and overall this is a very good looking piece.

The cover artwork for this release is really great as it features Koutaro's mother and stepdaughter Nagisa together wearing only the bright orange aprons that are creatively falling off of them while the yellow filtered background fills up the image of a small supermarket fruits section. It's very appealing with the designs and the layout as it eases just perfectly. The back cover has a lot of shots from the show that titillate even more and has a decent summary of the episodes plot and premise along the left. The discs features and production information rounds out the bottom part and covers most of the basics in a clean and easy to read layout.

The menu layout uses the artwork from the front cover but with a bit softer coloring to it and has a more peach flavored filter for the background as that image is along the left. The right side features a close up of one of the other characters face that's layered behind the selections where she's using her tongue skillfully and there's a bit of music playing along to it. The layout is quick and easy to use with separate sections for everything. Access times are nice and fast and due to the language setup our players' presets were a non-issue.

The only extra included is a slideshow featuring shots from the show.

Wife with Wife certainly starts off with an appealing title but it thankfully carries through by having appealing character designs and a fairly unique setting to it that helps separate it from so many other similar shows out there. While the wife on wife action isn't exactly prominent here, the lead male character certainly has his way with a lot of mothers that are needing some attention.

The premise introduces us to Koutaro, a young man who has taken over management of an independent market called Sakura Market. With the death of his father, Koutaro's essentially inherited not only the store but also the responsibility for his younger sister Nagisa as well as his stepmother. His mother had died some time ago and his father remarried a very attractive younger woman who certainly has a motherly nature about her. For Koutaro, it's been stressful dealing with everything but one area that has him feeling good is the kinds of naughty dreams he has about his mother and taking her by force so that he can understand exactly what she feels like.

He doesn't act on this even though his stepmother does things like washing his back so he gets some relief by spending time with one of the customers of the store, a young mother named Touko whose beautiful red hair and looks really win him over easily. She's there shopping at one point with her young baby son and Koutaro offers to deliver her groceries to her since she's got her hands full but he ends up being paid off in a really engaging ways when he gets there later. Since Touko ends up being his first, Koutaro is certainly eager to get his hands on more skin and the way he daydreams now has him becoming even more randy.

So when he sees his stepmother laying in her little nightie on her bed fast asleep, he can't help himself but crawl between her legs and start pleasuring her. The culmination of their relationship turns into an interesting scene by itself though you wonder how long it will be before Nagisa ends up in the picture. The family has to stick together during the trials they're facing as Koutaro's older brother Taiyo is intent on buying out the market for the company he works for and Taiyo is doubly intent on taking his stepmother for his own wife. There's a simple randy and raunchy bit of dialogue throughout this, particular as the stepmother is open to all of this and teases her stepdaughter about her own body.

While the character designs aren't all that above average, they are good looking and well animated and colored here which works strongly in their favor. Some of it at times has a bit of a flat feel to it but as they get into things it starts to flow better. Touko's character in particular comes across the best here though the hint of the new character in the shoplifter has potential as does Nagisa. The sex scenes themselves are decently animated though they don't go as fluid as some other shows while the non-sex scenes do more pans and simple movement shots in order to keep the budget down. The show isn't one of the best animated or greatest looking out there but it's a solid looking piece.

In Summary:
Wife with Wife won't set the shelves ablaze but it is a fun little title that has an otherwise good looking happy guy who has a dark bent to him that is being well received by the women he knows. While there's some sort of non-consensual material at times it's not something that's really strongly played with here. Add in the lack of scatological material – though there is a bit of milk play – and it has a wider appeal as well. There's something of a storyline attached to this but it's minimal so far and hasn't had much impact on things. The sex is decent, the character designs appealing and the overall setting is a very welcome change of pace. Wife with Wife is a solid entry into the adult genre that has its appeals but it doesn't stand out too strongly among some of the really stiff competition out there.
