Finally someone has begun selling a dock with a rechargeable battery for the Wii. It has been on the shelf for quite some time for a few developers, and while others have teased their products this is the first one you can buy. The packaging includes three things, a dock that you need to plug into the USB port on the back of your system. The second is a semi-charged battery for your Wii-mote. Finally there is also a battery plate to put over the back of the Wii-mote so that the dock can charge the batteries.
Installation is a snap, which makes things quite easy to put together. The dock itself has a bright blue LED, which is almost as bright as the system’s lights are when it downloads in sleep mode. The LED remains blue while the remote is charging, while it blinks when the task has been completed. The dock compliments the system quite well and even appears to be like something Nintendo would manufacture.
The battery comes pre-charged, which is great when you want to play. It is recommended that you use up this entire charge before putting it in the charger if you want the most out of it, mainly to eliminate any possible memory. Charging only takes around four hours, depending if you fully drain the batteries, and it allows for around twelve hours of gameplay. I am currently on my 15th hour of gameplay, and it seems I still have a bit more juice left in it. Overall it works quite well, and if you want to replace regular batteries with re-chargeables this is the way to go.
Here are a few personal notes that I have on the product. Dock works fantastically and because of the battery plate on the back so I do not need to remove my strap to recharge the system. I have a minor nick picking issue with the colour of the plate, which is slightly off white. It is not too noticeable unless you stare quite closely at it, but generally you will not even notice though since it is in your hand. I might even suggest in the future that they perhaps add an anti-slip patch to the bundle, just to cover all of the bases. The second issue that I have is that they have released an upgraded model of this, which includes two chargers and double yield batteries for $44.99. The product normally costs only $19.99, but for $24.99 you can get the same model with a double yield battery.
I would give them a solid C+ for their price and what they offer. It works very well, but with the upgrade of a better battery for just slightly more, I am going to have to recommend the upgraded model over this for only another $5.00. In contrast I would give the other package, if it worked exactly the same, a B+ because the price is holding it back.
