Director-writer Neil Marshall (The Descent, Doomsday) has a new horror spec called Sacrilege planned, reports Variety. Marshall will write and direct the horror set in the Old West for Rogue Features.

"It is set during the Gold Rush, a time remembered for incidents like the Donner Party. It is meant to be a pitch-black, gritty, period horror movie," says Marshall. He added that the picture will draw on themes of isolation and paranoia and such influences as John Carpenter's The Thing. "This is 'Unforgiven' by way of H.P. Lovecraft, with that grim, gritty setting and a horror element nobody has seen before."

Same here. We need more good Westerns and I love horror flicks. These haven't been mixed too often in the past (I think) so I'll definitely give it a go.

Agreed! Will need to keep an eye on this one to see how it develops. Lovecraftian Westerns ... Cowboys with tentacles! I can't wait!

Agree with everyone here. Two different genres that are rarely combined, I'm down.

Good director + good idea for a movie = high amount of interest. As much as I don't like repeating other people's ideas, I have to say this sounds like a really fun time. I would hope there will be three or four good characters in the movie to go along with the story idea, and I'm curious to know the relation of the title to the story. I guess that will come when more story details are released.

I'm curious to see how much of the plot will resemble 1999's Ravenous. I just caught that flick a few weeks ago. Not for the squeamish.
