Michael Giancchino is the closest to Williams out there. He will definitely be taking the helm if Williams can't. Abrams and Giancchino are like the Spielberg and Williams of our age. Nothing can compare but it's as close as it can get.

@wormlander - That was my whole point. As he is most likely still a general it is the perfect excuse to bring Lando back.

Axia - CC is a huge venue, so I guess they were using a wheelchair to get him around easier, from place to place. I guess we can both confirm that he's definitely not as mobile as he once was.

Then Billy Dee would need a personal trainer to get back into shape because he was looking like Erik Estrada's pudgy brother on a recent episode of NCIS: Los Angeles. Disney hired one yesterday for Carrie Fisher since she struggled under Jenny Craig's plan when she was trying to get fit back in 2011.  So she's gonna get a more rigorous workout

Now back to the topic at hand, John Williams will be ready for the new Star Wars films.  He said that not long after all the Star Wars movie hoopla started when Disney acquired the license.

I hope the old guard they're planning on using here isn't the focus of the next movie, but are used as a device to introduce new and exciting characters, and a new direction that is interesting.  At this point I disliked episodes 1 - 3 so much that I could care less if they make any more.  Jar Jar, a whiny Anakin, killing off Darth Maul in ep 1, the whole trade federation contrived plot, midi chlorians, etc. were simply awful.  There were some good moments, but not enough.  I hope JJ shakes things up here and breathes some new life into this stale franchise.

They are planning to introduce characters from the novels and possibly the games since Kyle Katarn's name has been tossed around perhaps as a possible spin-off movie along with a young Han Solo feature or Boba Fett to serve as filler for the main story arcs of VII to IX.

The old cast will serve as a means to help groom the younger cast them during the trilogy likely in lesser, but meaningful roles when passing the torch.  But they have been on record saying that the new films will be based on new material and not what is currently in print in books.

As long as George Lucas isn't writing it, how can it be worse than the last 3? Kyle Katarn? I loved those games. Too bad they shut down lucas arts.

Sorry to break it to you but the Expanded Universe books are pretty much being discarded. There has been no word on Kyle Katarn's name. If you have any info on that please pass it along.

But last we heard the new movies are all original stories. That mean no Thrawn, no Swarm War, or any of that cool stuff we all read. Sad, but true.

The young Han Solo and Boba Fett movies are more than just rumors too. They are happening 100%

It has to be Williams.
