Fantastic movie for young and old alike. I used to be bummed that the sequel fell apart. Lately, after seeing all of these new sequels/prequels to classics from my childhood that have been utter disasters, I'm kinda glad it's not happening.

Loved this as a kid. I remember when I heard Jim Henson died. It's the only time I teared up over a "celebrity" death.
I think I like The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth about equally, but for different reasons. I think TDC has it all over Labyrinth in story and execution, but I LOVE the soundtrack to Labyrinth. As a karaoke DJ, I went out of my way to find "Magic Dance" and "As The World Falls Down" on karaoke...crowd always loves hearing even my pitiful rendition of "Magic Dance."
love this British /American jim henson frank oz film. the Skeksis looked crazy, please' please' plllleeeaassseee!!!!! hahaha love this movie so much, no CGI all puppets and high tech state of the art animatronics all magic...what happend to dark-Cristal 2 ?

"Power of the Dark Crystal" was meant to serve as a sequel but fell apart after a production company from Australia called Omnilab Media and a "directing team" of Michael and Peter Spierig left the production due to "budget concerns." At this point I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for that one. Perhaps it's just as well, if history is any indication it's likely they would've screwed it up like too many other sequels that have been done. Maybe The Dark Crystal is best left as a stand alone feature.
Yeah, I kind of feared a Dark Crystal sequel going the way of the Neverending Story sequels...anybody want to deny those were HORRIBLE?
Yoda puppet all day. For some reason it seemed they were able to express his emotions better with the puppet, IMO.
Likewise I loved the puppets in Farscape. Not to say that CGI doesn't have it's place, but I prefer to see the skill used that makes puppets seem to come to life.
For me, The Dark Crystal is easily one of the greatest fantasy adventures of all time!! There is really no other movie like it, even Labyrinth despite having it's own unique collection of puppets is a much different movie. But as much as I love Dark Crystal I like Rob prefer Labyrinth. Regardless, Dark Crystal did make money worldwide but still deserved a better fate commercially IMO. It was likely a combination of a lack of proper marketing, it's dark nature, and perhaps just being ahead of it's time. However, it will live on forever on home video. Forget the dvd, Dark Crystal looks terrific on bluray, including great detail and colors like the costumes, the creatures themselves, and landscapes. Highly recommended!!
As far as which is a better Yoda, CGI or puppetry, perhaps a combo of both would've given us the best version of Yoda.
