There were reports last year of director Len Wiseman being the choice to lead the upcoming adaptation of Gears of War, the best selling videogame from Epic Games and Microsoft. In fact, it was at one time being fast tracked as a possible Summer-Fall 2008 release. But with the WGA strike halting many productions, the talk eventually died down and we haven't heard much since even with a sequel hitting the console later this year.
Until now.
Variety is confirming that the Live Free or Die Hard director will be leading the first adaptation of a possible franchise, with screenwriter Chris Morgan taking over the screenplay tasks originally written by Stuart Beattie. Morgan's also collaborating with Wiseman on an upcoming sci-fi action-thriller called Shell Game, which is set in the future about a detective investigating the black market business of immortality.
Gears Plot Concept: "Gears" revolves around a world reeling from an invasion by aliens known as the Locust, and a small team of elite soldiers who fight to retake the planet Sera and save its human inhabitants.
