Wiseman Shares on WOLVERINE Spinoff

I had a chance to watch a round of questions between Len Wiseman (Underworld) and some film students on the Fox Movie Channel last week. In the answers given, Wiseman made it quite clear that he would like to return to the world of Fantasy and Science Fiction because it gives him more of an opportunity to mold the vision of the story around a complex world as he sees it with a lot more leeway then say a movie based more on reality's standards. Something tells me Edward Douglas over at Superhero Hype may have known about Wiseman's feelings about returning to more fantastical and imaginative worlds. While Wiseman is helping 20th Century Fox do the press rounds for his upcoming Live Free or Die Hard (releases next Wednesday 27), Douglas at Superhero Hype asked him about another future Fox production on the horizon.

Wolverine.

Here was Wiseman's answer:

"'Wolverine' is something I was interested in way before I was talking to these guys about 'Die Hard,'" he told Superhero Hype!. "I think it would be a great story to tell, and in the case of that film, it wouldn't be [as big] in terms of large-scale action, but it's something I'm interested in, in his origin story and the character story with that, and I know how Hugh would play it, and that would be awesome. So that would be my passion for that is that I think the character story is really cool, and I'd love to see it and be there the first day [it opens] anyway. There's so many things that have been going on and I know that there are so many other directors. There's nothing set in any fashion, but it has been talked about."

NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Wiseman sucks ass!

Please dear God or Dog or whomever is on watch this shift, keep Wiseman away from Wolverine. Also keep that retard Mark Steven Johnson away from it as well.

I would love to see Doug Liman (Swingers, Go) take a crack at it, but he's involved in that trilogy that he's been filming for awhile now.

This is what scares me about the Wolverine movie: that 20th Century Fox will go the route of X3 and hire a mediocre director. Not Wiseman and not Ratner. The Underworld movies were alright but nothing really spectacular.

I've heard good things about the Wolverine script and hope they nab a top director, not the guy who directed the Underworld movies and the sanitized Die Hard 4.

Well, I for one really liked Underworld and Underworld Evolution. . .

But you really couldn't get me to be excited about a Wolverine movie. Regardless of who is cast or directing.
Blech blech blech.
X3 especially killed any interest I MAY have had in a Wolverine film (which, admittedly, would not have been much anyway.)

I'll have to agree with Merin's post.
Unless you get, say, Ridley Scott to direct Wolverine, I can't get too excited.
I mean, I'll see it regardless. Just won't be too excited.

Personally, I didn't like Underworld. It didn't seem to have much substance for me. It was flashy with lots of cool imagery but no character development with any weight and a little silly in the plot department. Seemed more like an old school Image Comic then something that was adding to the genre. That plus the incredibly empty crapfest that was X3 (can I get a Ratner suck? Amen!) really gives me no hope for Wolverine.

Like the Ridley Scott suggestion though!

i agree with daforce ... wiseman sucks, and he was probably one of the reasons DIE HARD 4 got bumped down to pg13 (good goind dumb ass)

i agree with merin ... x3 killed ANY interest in this project

i agree with sasquatchb ... scott is a fantastic director that really knows how to tell a story. if any story deserved to be told its this one. now get someone good to direct, and we're golden

i agree with joeybaloney ... underworld was kinda crappy!

all in all, i dont think i will roll into theaters to catch this one unless i see some MAJOR development on images, or director status. please dont let us down like so many other marvel movies (i.e. hulk, daredevil, ghost rider, X3)

Not being a fan of a story or its characters does not make a director suck. It's nearly impossible to fully grasp the amount of work and devotion that goes into being a part of a major film let alone being it's director. If Len Wiseman really did suck he would not be in the industry, or married to Kate Beckinsale........he would probably be at....home......writing a comment.........just......like.............this.......

Let's Fandango him a pair of opening day tickets, and get someone else to direct.

I'm with Merin about Underworld. I really liked it. Evolution wasn't near as good, but I disagree about wolverine. I think concentrating on one character from X-men is a great idea and he has a lot of history to work with. I know you hate him because you think he's one dimensional, but he's got loads of depth if they do the character right.

I thought that Underworld was great...and that UE was okay....

If a Wolverine movie has to be done...it has to be darker....and because there are so many stories that can be pulled from him, you have to stick with something that would allow for the character to be a menance.
