Wolfking Warrior
By: CAPTAIN GORDON EDWARDReview Date: Tuesday, September 05, 2006
For quite a while people have been looking for the edge needed to take their gaming ability to the next level. While most times it takes practice to move up the ranks, but sometimes it is all about having the proper equipment. Because of that I have seen many accessories over my time of being a gamer, including one with has a keyboard built into a controller, or a mouse that can do anything you needed in the Unreal game. Likewise this has brought forth the Wolfking keyboard, which puts all the main buttons needed into a disk shaped keyboard on your desk, making all the important buttons easy to reach.
I had played this keyboard with three different games to test it out. Since this keyboard seemed to be designed for first person shooters, two of the games that I tried it out with were that. Those games were Counter-Strike Source, and another interesting FPS by the name of War Rock. The third game that I played was a little untraditional, and that was Guild Wars: Factions.
I have personally played games on just the standard keyboard for many years. This holds true for the games Guild Wars and Counter-Strike, so adding on this mini-keyboard to what I currently have was a bit... difficult as my instincts directed me to move my hands back to the keyboard. After a while of forcing myself to only use the Wolfking keyboard, it began to feel a bit more natural. I feel that this addition is fantastic for this use, and it does give you a bit of an advantage once you get used to playing with it.
Playing War Rock and Counter-Strike Source I found it extremely easy to hop in and get into the heat of battle. It was easy to switch weapons around, and even easier to get the objectives done... which was mainly killing all of your opponents. I expected it to deliver on this end, and it did a great job. As for Guild Wars: Factions though, it did do most of the basic requests that I wanted, but since I do not use TeamSpeak often, I hand type all of my messages. As such if you are going to play Guild Wars or any other MMORPGs, I would recommend getting the full keyboard offered, rather than the mini.
The installation of the keyboard is very easy, as per expected. All you need to do is plug it into any up to date computer then it recognizes it immediately, and then you are set to play. The Wolfking Warrior was designed as a one-stop shop keyboard on first person shooters, and it does a great job at that. I would have requested that they have an enter key on the mini-keyboard, but that was not a necessary thing to have. What is also nice about the accessory is that it stays put so you do not need to worry about it roaming around while being absorbed with the game.
In the end the mini-keyboard is a great addition, especially for a game like Counter-Strike. The board only takes about an hour to get used to and then it fits like a glove. I may even recommend getting the full sized keyboard to play, as they are attached, and the keys respond fantastically. The keyboard is also able to handle quite a few buttons being pressed down, without getting the Windows beep you get with most other keyboards after hitting the fourth consecutive key. This means the keyboard has excellent circuitry. All and all, Captain Gordon gives this accessory a B+.
