WOLVERINE Gets a Director

By: Jarrod Sarafin, News Editor

A few weeks ago, a Fox executive was quoted as saying they want WOLVERINE out by 2008. With so many of next year's releases already in their filming stages or in some cases, having wrapped up filming (IRON MAN), it's easy to see why so many insiders scratched their head at that Fox rep. quote.

Apparently, Fox is continuing to set 2008 as the release for it. This morning, the Hollywood Reporter is saying that Fox has chosen a director for the spinoff of the X-MEN character. Gavin Hood has been chosen to direct the film, which was written by screenplay scribe David Benioff.

Current Plot Summary: Origin tale of the superhero, one of the most popular characters in comics. Wolverine has a mutant healing power that allows him to recover from any wound, which led him to survive an experiment in which his skeleton was bonded with an unbreakable metal. The process also installed retractable metal claws.

Marvel Studios, Lauren Shuler Donner, Jackman and John Palermo are set to produce the film. Hugh Jackman is signed on to reprise his character. Filming is set to begin this fall.

OK, comic book geek comment/correction: Logan was born with the claws.

mckracken • Jul 20, 2007, 01:16am •
true dat.

why would anybody willingly create a killing machine by adding adamantium skeleton when he already has self healing powers? nobody saw that coming, the day when Logan would say "hmm... no, I wont work for you" slice, slice "oh, thanks for these new claws and unbreakable skeleton, bub! By the way, you cant control me- neiner, neiner, neiner!"
LOL

I'm not familiar with his work, but he has an oscar, so who knows??

(Then again Heath Ledger also has an oscar, so they'll give them to anyone these days).

But HEY, it's not Len Wiseman, so I guess we dodged a bullet!

Yeoman • Jul 20, 2007, 03:01am •
I think in the movies it was implied he was given the claws. Stryker says "You were all ready a monster, I just gave you claws." or something like that.

Do they expect this out for a summer release? Same crap they pulled with X3, rushing it for summer and not putting the final touches on the script or production.

But Hey, it's not Brett Ratner, so we dodged that bullet too!

Hunter , narpin and Yeoman. True, True, and most definitely True!

I hope that they go with the Origins story, that he was born with the bone claws. I doubt they will talk about how old he is or show him as a young boy in 19th Century Alberta, but it would be cool. What I`d really like to see is him in his brown uniform with the pointy mask and everything.

They established in Origin that he was born with bone claws. I can't believe it took years to get an origin for him with all the comics he was in. It's kind of a joke with the comics crowd all the guest starring he does in other comics and appearing on cover to make money for Marvel. At one point Wolverine even says "I can't be on everybody's &%** team!"

If we're gonna get our comic nerd nit-picking on...
It was actually established long before Origin that he was born with bone claws. Back during Fatal Attractions in Wolverine 75 after Magneto pulled out his adamantium, the bone claws popped out when he first tried to train again in the danger room.

THey are going to rush this out & it will be an even bigger piece of crap than X Men 3 was. Ok, that might not be possible, but it could come very close.

"Back during Fatal Attractions in Wolverine 75 after Magneto pulled out his adamantium, the bone claws popped out when he first tried to train again in the danger room."

Which seems to have lead to to the idea in Origin that he was born with them.

Didn't the issue (or subsequent issues) also imply that the bone claws grew as a replacement for his claws?

I never liked the whole bone claws idea. It just never fit with the way the claws have been portrayed for the better part of Wolvie's history - mainly, that they weren't cylindrical, but blade-like.

But then, imo, Origin was an overrated pile of crap anyways.

As long as this is better than Electra or Catwoman, I am there.
