X-Men Origins: Wolverine is the origin tale of Marvel's iconic (and clawed) superhero. The plan by the studios Fox and Marvel and director Gavin Hood is introduce the character and eventually bridge the gap of his character to the events that took place in the original X-Men trilogy. Judging from the latest set photos taken at Blacksmiths Beach in Australia, the scenes they're currently filming are taking place earlier into the character's history.

The film stars Jackman,
Liev Schreiber, Ryan Reynolds, Taylor Kitsch, Will.i.am, Danny Huston, Dominic Monaghan, Daniel Henney and Lynn Collins. Gavin Hood is directing, based on a screenplay by David Benioff.

Plot Summary: Leading up to the events of "X-Men," "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" tells the story of Wolverine's epically violent and romantic past, his complex relationship with Victor Creed, and the ominous Weapon X program. Along the way, Wolverine encounters many mutants, both familiar and new, including surprise appearances by several legends of the X-Men universe.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine will hit theaters May 1, 2009.

Am excited about this movie. When i first heard that all-singing, all dancing theatre and b-grade aussie movie actor Jackman was going to be playing Wolverine i laughed my ass off. At that time he was only doing stage shows like Oklahoma and The boy from Oz. But i got tickets to the world premiere of Xmen and went along and he blew me away. He owns this character now. Now if they could do an X-Men 2099 movie i'll be happy.

Hugh looks a bit sickly I hope he doesn't have the...um..."disease"...."ALLEGEDLY"!

Hugh won me over some. But I won't go as far as saying that he owns the character. I still would've rather have some one that actually resembled Wolverine. But they chose someone based on good looks instead of character traits.

Anyway too bad Marvel doesn't have the rights to him and the X-Men. They could've added a Captain America cameo here when he met him during WW2.

Back in 1990, musician Glenn Danzig was offered the role of Wolverine, because of his height, 5'4", and muscular build, by film studio Carolco back when they held the rights to do an X-Men film. I wonder who would have pulled it off better...Danzig or Jackman?

Yes, Yes, Yes, I said at the beginning all I really wanted was a WWII scene. Thank you, thank you, and thank you. This is going to be sweet.

As for the short or tall version, I don't really care. I've always liked Jackman's take, especially when he kicked butt in X2. And as far as resembling him, hell he's got the hair, what do you want a cartoon face? I think he looks pretty close. Just too tall, but who cares. Does his height define him? I say no, and they made the character more accessible, more likable, and that's what the average movie goer wants is a likable hero. And remember they're making the movie for everyone, not we fan boys.

Hugh rules...I may see that Australia movie with Nicole Kidman just to see if he kicks more ass....

...and if you want to see him in one of the best roles of any actor ever, go watch "The Fountain"

Peace

almostunbiased, Height definitely is one of if not his defining trait, the face isn't aside from his facial hair. Someone who has been picked on or made fun of all his life. That has helped made him into the aggresive, defensive ready to kick any one's ass at any moment badass he is. Why? Because he was short. More than any hero out his height is key to who he is. So to answer your question, I care that he's too tall. Sure I enjoyed him as Wolverine but I'm always consciously trying to put his height out of my mind and never totally bought into his performance because of it.

And what does it matter if they're not making the film just for us fanboys? Are you trying to say that a short person can't carry a movie? Hasn't Tom Cruise and all 5'6" of him carried a film or two, that's only slightly taller than Wolverine is supposed to be.

Sorry Wiseguy to disagree, but Hugh does own Wolverine. By the way...he got the role the after Dougray Scott (WHO ORIGINALLY WON THE ROLE) got injured during the motorcycle scene during the last days of shooting Mission Impossible 2 and was bout to hop over to shoot X-Men and opened the door for Hugh again, so Hugh's looks never played a part in it. If that was even the case, which it wasn't, then he wouldn't have been the runner-up the first time around. Now Matthew Fox taking his mask off as Racer X in Speed Racer.....THAT WAS BECAUSE OF HIS LOOKS SO IT CAN GIVE WOMEN A SURPRISE SINCE THEY NORMALLY SEE HIM WITH HIS SCRUFFY BEARD AND NOT WEARING A MASK ON LOST!! HEY LADIES, LOOK...ITS MATTHEW FOX!!!..........yeah, right. Thanks for going against the premise of Racer X Walchosky Bros. Pretty stupid.

Now if we're gonna talk about size, I'm more concerned about that for Wonder Woman than I ever was for Wolverine. I don't want a 5'6" 108 lb. model who needs a few happy meals from McDonalds playing Wonder Woman. The key word is A-M-A-Z-O-N.....If you need help Warners.....have you ever thought about Charlize Theron?? She's just about 6'1" if I'm not mistaken and wearing heels recently at the MTV Movie Awards, she towered Will Smith, who's about 6'3". Now if she put on bout 25-30 pounds of muscle and black hair AND POOF......WONDER WOMAN!!! Duh!! But by the time IF they ever get around to it and stop thinking about doing Justice League before establishing the other main players, she'll be too old then.....just like it happened with Lucy Lawless. But atleast we got the joy of hearing her voice WW in Justice League: New Frontier. AND BY THE WAY TO THE STUPID WB CEO WHO SAID A FEW MONTHS AGO THAT CHICKS WHO LEADS FLICKS SUCKS...you must not have watched the sleeper hit Juno or the show that I don't care about, Sex in the City raking in nearly $90 million dollars in 2 weeks. How stupid do you feel making that remark?? Ready to give Wonder Woman her own movie again after you abandoned it?? OH WAIT, YOU'RE TOO STUPID TO TRANSLATE THE CHARACTER TO THE BIG SCREEN because you're too busy smelling the crack of your own ass to register a hint of an idea, a story...and much less keep a director interested long enough, so maybe I should with a couple of avid WW readers to help hammer out a script.

Raith, is all good. I'm always the dissenting voice on this topic. He is too tall, way too tall for a character whose height is a key trait in not just my opinion but in fact. And the moment they had him crying like a little bitch took points away from what he'd done earlier in X2. Yeah, he kicked as in X2, well Wolverine kicked ass, no thanks to Singer or Jackman but to "God Loves, Man Kill" graphic novel.

The problem was during casting, you don't just open up this role to anyone. You look for what the role calls for. I bet my life that there are good, short actors out there that could've done him justice. And that's where they went wrong again in this Wolverine film. Even though I like Schreiber, he is the wrong cat to play Sabretooth. Now Wolverine and Sabretooth fighting each other won't be as dramatic as it would've come across with a short Wolverine against a much taller Creed ala David and Goliath if you will. Like I said from the moment they cast him, he better kick ass and make me forget about his height unlike Hugh. Did I say height matters here? Yes it does.

Raith, you're helping make my point that height matters. Wonder Woman the AMAZON is agreat example where you can't have one of these skinny wannabe models play the role. And just to repeat myself once more Wolverine's height is just as key as Wonder Woman's.
