'Wonder Woman' awaits a screenplay

Producer Leonard Goldberg (of 'Charlie's Angels' fame) told MTV Splash Page that the long-stalled 'Wonder Woman' movie is still in search of a script.

The last big movement on the project saw Joss Whedon exiting the film while Joel Silver purchased a spec screenplay from newcomers Matthew Jennison and Matt Strickland. That one was set in World War 2, but Goldberg says he's pushing for a contemporary take on the material.

"I can only speak for myself...I would like it to be more current," Goldberg said. "I hope that we don't finally wind up doing the same story again: Steve Trevor flying, and his plane crashes onto the island [of Themyscira, Wonder Woman's matriarchal homeland]. He's supposed to be executed, and she saves his life. Perhaps we'll do that in a very abbreviated fashion up front, and then come up with a story that no one has seen yet."

In spite of about ten years of casting attachements, rumor and fan dreamcasting that included names like Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Aniston, Lucy Lawless and so on, the producer says he'd prefer an uknown actress in the lead role.
