Rumors point to Wonder Woman director and possible star. Plus: More of those Spider-Man photos. Some Green Lantern toy images. GnR's Slash to Wake the Dead and more! It's your Comics2Film T minus 3!
Some news from Sundance: Hero Complex reports that Guns n Roses guitarist Slash has his own horror movie shingle called Slasher films. One of his first four initial projects aims to be an adaptation of the Steve Niles comic Wake the Dead.
Jay Russell (The Water Horse, Ladder 49) is on board to direct the movie, which is a contemporary remix of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, recast with a college age med student.
"We want to recapture the quality of horror like they made them in the ’70s," Niles told Hero Complex. "Horror where you care about the characters and story. With Wake the Dead, Jay Russell, Slash and I hope to make a horror movie that sticks with you long after you’ve seen it."
Comic book movies made a weak showing in this year's Oscar nominations. Iron Man 2 got the sole nod in the "Achievement in Visual Effects" category, squaring off with Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, Hereafter and Inception.
There was no nomination for Jonah Hex which had been a surprise contender in the makeup effects category.
One thing we no for sure about director Marc Webb's new Spider-Man movie at this point: Spidey will run down the street and do a backflip into a pickup truck.
Need more evidence? The Marie Claire site has new images from the scene that's been filming on Sout Grand Ave in L.A. recently. We've got a few for you to check out here, but there's more at the site:
Also, in the initial set of photos it was pretty clear that Spidey would bounce from the pickup truck to the roof of a nearby cargo truck. Now On Location Vacations have a news set of photos of Spidey swinging away from the roof of that cargo truck (which kinda squashes our theories of Spidey being web-less in this scene, and needing to invent his web-spinners later).
Again, there are a few samples here, but more to be found at OLV:

About “Green Lantern”
In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan.
Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris, if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax…he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.
The film is scheduled for release in 3D and 2D on June 17, 2011. “Green Lantern” will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
The Daily Blam has an image of the Guardians of Oa, as they appear in the upcoming Green Lantern movie. The image is artwork that will appear on apparel available through Urban Collector.
Now that NBC has committed to the Wonder Woman TV show, word comes that a favorite has emerged to direct the pilot of the series.
TV Line reports that McG (aka Joseph McGinty Nichol) is looking likely to get the job helming the initial installment of David E. Kelley's take on the most iconic female super hero of all time. The director is, of course, famous for launching the Charlie's Angels film franchise and more recently directed Terminator: Salvation. While fans may not favor his feature film work, McG has had greater success producing some popular TV fare, such as Human Target, Supernatural and Chuck to name a few.
It does not appear that McG will also join Kelley on this series as a producer.
And the Sundance Film Festival has offered up another wannabe for the lead role in the show. The lovely Lake Bell told E! Online that she's going to make a full-court press to get the role.
You've seen her is such TV shows as Boston Legal (another Kelley-produced series) and the weekly creature feature Surface (which C2F used to enjoy during it's brief run). Currently she's appearing in No Strings Attached but was at Sundance promoting Worst Enemy, a film she wrote and directed.
"On my lists of things to do in my life—I mean, I campaign for it—is, I just want to play a superhero at some point," said the athletic actress adding, "I got the guns! With superheroes you have to have this tickle of humor in there and you have to be a really great actor and also kick ass. And I'm fine with kicking a guy's ass. I'll be honest, I think I'd make a great Wonder Woman. So if anyone out there is listening..."
Of course, the quote paints the whole Wonder Woman angle as nothing more than a spontaneous brain-fart made during an interview, but seriously, Lake: C2F is on board and you have an in with Kelley. Go for it!
What do you think, Maniacs? Will McG turn in a worthy pilot? Would Lake Bell fill the golden corset? Post your comments below...
