Rumors point to Wonder Woman director and possible star. Plus: More of those Spider-Man photos. Some Green Lantern toy images. GnR's Slash to Wake the Dead and more! It's your Comics2Film T minus 3!

GnR's Slash to WAKE THE DEAD

Some news from Sundance: Hero Complex reports that Guns n Roses guitarist Slash has his own horror movie shingle called Slasher films. One of his first four initial projects aims to be an adaptation of the Steve Niles comic Wake the Dead.

Jay Russell (The Water Horse, Ladder 49) is on board to direct the movie, which is a contemporary remix of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, recast with a college age med student.

"We want to recapture the quality of horror like they made them in the ’70s," Niles told Hero Complex. "Horror where you care about the characters and story. With Wake the Dead, Jay Russell, Slash and I hope to make a horror movie that sticks with you long after you’ve seen it."

IRON MAN 2 Gets Sole C2F Oscar Nod

Comic book movies made a weak showing in this year's Oscar nominations. Iron Man 2 got the sole nod in the "Achievement in Visual Effects" category, squaring off with Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, Hereafter and Inception.

There was no nomination for Jonah Hex which had been a surprise contender in the makeup effects category.

More New  SPIDER-MAN Pics

One thing we no for sure about director Marc Webb's new Spider-Man movie at this point: Spidey will run down the street and do a backflip into a pickup truck.

Need more evidence? The Marie Claire site has new images from the scene that's been filming on Sout Grand Ave in L.A. recently. We've got a few for you to check out here, but there's more at the site:

Also, in the initial set of photos it was pretty clear that Spidey would bounce from the pickup truck to the roof of a nearby cargo truck. Now On Location Vacations have a news set of photos of Spidey swinging away from the roof of that cargo truck (which kinda squashes our theories of Spidey being web-less in this scene, and needing to invent his web-spinners later).

Again, there are a few samples here, but more to be found at OLV:

About “Green Lantern”

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries.  Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps.  A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers.  But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan.

Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before.  But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity.  With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris, if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax…he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

The film is scheduled for release in 3D and 2D on June 17, 2011.  “Green Lantern” will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

WONDER WOMAN Rumors Tip Director, Star Wannabe

Now that NBC has committed to the Wonder Woman TV show, word comes that a favorite has emerged to direct the pilot of the series.

TV Line reports that McG (aka Joseph McGinty Nichol) is looking likely to get the job helming the initial installment of David E. Kelley's take on the most iconic female super hero of all time. The director is, of course, famous for launching the Charlie's Angels film franchise and more recently directed Terminator: Salvation. While fans may not favor his feature film work, McG has had greater success producing some popular TV fare, such as Human Target, Supernatural and Chuck to name a few.

It does not appear that McG will also join Kelley on this series as a producer.

And the Sundance Film Festival has offered up another wannabe for the lead role in the show. The lovely Lake Bell told E! Online that she's going to make a full-court press to get the role.

You've seen her is such TV shows as Boston Legal (another Kelley-produced series) and the weekly creature feature Surface (which C2F used to enjoy during it's brief run). Currently she's appearing in No Strings Attached but was at Sundance promoting Worst Enemy, a film she wrote and directed.

"On my lists of things to do in my life—I mean, I campaign for it—is, I just want to play a superhero at some point," said the athletic actress adding, "I got the guns! With superheroes you have to have this tickle of humor in there and you have to be a really great actor and also kick ass. And I'm fine with kicking a guy's ass. I'll be honest, I think I'd make a great Wonder Woman. So if anyone out there is listening..."

Of course, the quote paints the whole Wonder Woman angle as nothing more than a spontaneous brain-fart made during an interview, but seriously, Lake: C2F is on board and you have an in with Kelley. Go for it!

What do you think, Maniacs? Will McG turn in a worthy pilot? Would Lake Bell fill the golden corset? Post your comments below...

Hmmm ... Spidey has stunts.  OK.

GL has toys that look ... ok.

It also has Guardians who look like Talosians from Star Trek.

I like McG to helm the pilot of WW.  He does good TV.

Lake Bell?  Really?  I looked through her pics on imdb.  Every third one or so looked good.  I guess I'd need to see more to make an informed decision.

Tevii 1/26/2011 6:49:13 AM

Everytime I see that Spidey costume now I wann a see a silver Nike Swoosh on the boots.

Some of the Green Lantern toys look pretty cool. The action figure looks great.  Still have high hopes for the movie.

Love Lake Bell, and she could play a superheroine, but not Wonder Woman.... McG could pull it off, and if he does get the gig.... get ERIN CUMMINGS.... perfect Wonder Woman. Looks the part and she proved she can be a strong character in both Spartacus.

Hobbs 1/26/2011 6:54:53 AM

Casting is everything with WW and I'm sorry but Lake Bell is not her.  Especially with so many good names out there over the last year.  The woman they picked for the Justice League movie comes to mind, though I don't remember her name.

GL I have high hopes for as well...I would like to see a new trailer without Van Wilder in it.

Calibur454 1/26/2011 7:08:58 AM

tevil i was thinking the same thing about spiderman I bet niike will get a spiderman shoe endorsement deal

I'm rather surprised to hear about slash getting into films. I loved his first solo album. It looks like he is trying to follow in the path of rob zombie to make his own horror movies. I wish him luck

I also sent them a link to show who was going to die in the FF3 story line- Bye Bye Human Tourch- the story brok out in mainstream media yesturday and it is all over the web especially CBR Not sure why mania wouldn't say anything about it.

could care less  for green lantern or the toys but they will sell. I cast all doubts aside when hulks gloves with special effects hit it big with kids

silversurfer 1/26/2011 7:41:16 AM

Spidey looks ok, I don't have any concerns for how the film will do...it'll do well just out of curiosity alone.

GL Stuff: Hard to say about that, but I do have a feeling the toys will not have the impact that they're hoping for. Guardian T-Shirts won't do anything in comparison to GL's classic T-shirt with the emblem of the ring those still rock!

WW....I don't know.

LocoLobo73 1/26/2011 7:46:48 AM

WW : Mc G is fine a director for it but i think Whedon would be better suited for it , Lake is a big NO, Id l.ike to see Bridget Regan for the role, Gina Carano, would be great if she can act.

GL : I dont give a crap about the toys lets see moreof the movie

Spidey: well not anything new here , besides the costume , everything looks great, but i can deal with the suit.

johnwhitetoledo 1/26/2011 7:47:47 AM

 Lake Bell -not even.

jfdavis 1/26/2011 8:00:43 AM

Spider-man- Really? There will be action in the movie? Stop the presses.

Green Lantern- Love the look of the Guardians.  The toys don't impress me much especially the Stay-Puff Marshmallow Lantern...

Wonder Woman- McG can easily direct the pilot and just don't see it happening unless there's some connection to Kelley I don't know about. (Besides both using Lucy Liu I mean) I'm re-watching Boston Legal now and Lake Bell would be perfectly passable as Diana but there are other Kelley alums I'd rather see.  Rhona Mitra anyone? Holly Marie Combs and Parker Posey are probably too old...  I still say Bridget Regan.

Michelle Pfieffer has to play Hippolyta.

madmanic999 1/26/2011 8:08:11 AM

Lake Bell is perfect, just dye the hair....

Spidey's costume should not have been messed with, not saying it will hurt the movie, just don't like the new design.

GL looks ridiculous. also not saying it will hurt the movie, but the trailer looked... well ridiculous... hope this is fun SciFi like the new Star Trek.

Wiseguy 1/26/2011 8:20:13 AM

Hobbs, I'm with you  100%, Megan Gale is the name you're looking for. She was spot on for the failed JLA film they should definitely get her. This Lake Bell I just can't see it. By Hollywood standards she isn't good looking enough IMO to play WW. Not that she's ugly, just not WW, maybe she can be some other amazonian if they show Themyscira

I'm cool with McG directing WW

Spidey in action looks fantastic. I guess not all the swinging is cgi, cool.

The GL toys  don't mean anything to me as far as the film goes. I do like the art work for the Guardians though. Can't wait to see them
