As we already know, the Black Canary character made an appearance in the Nov. 6Birds Of Prey episode, "Sins Of The Mother". Jeff Woolnough, director of the episode, talked with SCI FI Wire about the experience of directing the episode.
Woolnough commented on how comfortable the three main actresses (Rachel Skarsten, Ashley Scott, and Dina Meyer) were in their roles, and noted the working relationship he had previously cultivated with one of them.
"Ashley Scott, who plays Huntress, was a recurring [actor] onDark Angel last year, so I knew her from Dark Angel," the director said. "She's a real salt-of-the-earth gal from one of the Carolinas. She's just a down-to-earth, normal, everyday person. Because of who she is, I really think that she's instrumental in gelling the other members of the cast. She's the one who the series is centered around, and the other ones are just drawn to her because of who she is."
Woolnough's experience directingDark Angel proved valuable to his work on Birds. "We did wirework onBirds Of Prey, and we used to do quite a bit of wirework on Dark Angel too," he said. "I love doing wirework. It's fun. You get to fly people around and do the sort of stunts and bits where people walk sideways on walls and walk up walls and flip over backwards and that sort of stuff. There's a fair bit of that inBirds Of Prey."
Apparently, Woolnough has also been courted to direct future episodes ofBirds Of Prey, should the series be renewed for another season. "I don't have dates," he said. " But I think they're still waiting for their back nine pickup. They told me I could do as many as I want if they get picked up. I'm sitting here hoping that happens."
