The sales aspect of the DVD market was dominated this week by Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, pulling more than twice as many copies as Spider-Man 3 and significantly more DVDs than Shrek the Third in their respective first weeks. Those numbers are coming from the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert DVD Sales Chart and they don't even include Wal-Mart sales into their rankings.

Following behind in the sales charts is the Judd Apatow-produced comedy Superbad for Sony, which won the race in the rentals charts for the week ending Dec. 9. In rentals, Superbad pulled in 14.0 million while At World's End ranked in 2nd with 9.5 mil. Live Free or Die Hard, the winner of the last two weeks, follows in third place with 8.4 million in rental receipts. .

On the high-definition disc front, At World's End and Superbad landed in No. 1 and No. 2 respectively on the Blu-ray Disc chart, while Warner/BBC's Planet Earth returned to the top spot on the HD DVD chart.

I am SHOCKED.

People wanted Pirates 3 more than Spidey 3 and Shrek the 3rd? Is that why it made more money at the theaters too?

SHOCKED.

I wish I could tell if you're being genuine or sarcastic, Collector.

I really enjoyed Pirates 3.Spidey 3, while enjoyable, was a bit of a wreck with trying to do too much with too many characters. I didn't see Shrek 3; maybe I'll rent it at some point.

Pirates 3, Superbad, Knocked Up and Shoot Em Up were the most fun movies of the Summer. Live Free or Die Hard is a solidly fun ride, but not quite as high on hilarity as Shoot Em Up.

Harry Potter OotP and Bourne Ultimatum were probably the best overall in the drama department. Unless you count 3:10 to Yuma, which is almost too good to be a Summer flick. And a bit late in the season.

Spder Man 3 bit messy as was Transformers, didn't see Shrek 3 either.

I'd watch PotC3 anyday before watching Spidey 3 again. I enjoyed the At World's End, although not as much as Dead Man's Chest...

I didn't love Spidey 3 or At world's end, but I sure wasn't bored to tears either. I got Spidey 3 for free, but not sure if I'll buy AWE. I hate not to have a set, but I'm not dieing to watch it yet. That's for sure.

You know, it's been almost a year, but I won a movie poster for the movie 300 and never got it. I'm not sure about these contests... hhmmm

POTC3 wasnt bad... I hated POTC2 when I first saw it but its wasnt bad on a 2nd viewing either... the 3rd "after the credits" scene was a total joke though...it was silly.
