The sales aspect of the DVD market was dominated this week by Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, pulling more than twice as many copies as Spider-Man 3 and significantly more DVDs than Shrek the Third in their respective first weeks. Those numbers are coming from the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert DVD Sales Chart and they don't even include Wal-Mart sales into their rankings.
Following behind in the sales charts is the Judd Apatow-produced comedy Superbad for Sony, which won the race in the rentals charts for the week ending Dec. 9. In rentals, Superbad pulled in 14.0 million while At World's End ranked in 2nd with 9.5 mil. Live Free or Die Hard, the winner of the last two weeks, follows in third place with 8.4 million in rental receipts. .
On the high-definition disc front, At World's End and Superbad landed in No. 1 and No. 2 respectively on the Blu-ray Disc chart, while Warner/BBC's Planet Earth returned to the top spot on the HD DVD chart.

People wanted Pirates 3 more than Spidey 3 and Shrek the 3rd? Is that why it made more money at the theaters too?
SHOCKED.
