Unless you were living under a rock last week, you would have seen quite a few colorful discussions going down in response to the worldwide premiere of the Avatar trailer and Fox's special IMAX event, "Avatar Day." With anticipation reaching its breaking point, and after such a long wait for official footage, the online fandom community dissected what they saw frame by frame while firmly planting opinionated flags into whichever ground they stood upon. Some fans absolutely loved it. And others not so much. There can be no doubt that the trailer sparked debate across the web.
And the film's stars saw as much.
While filming his next film, Clash of the Titans, Sam Worthington had a chance to discuss the event with journalists this week in which he noted the the numerous debates that followed the premiere. ComingSoon's Edward Douglas reports that Worthington pays close attention to the feedback as well as the decision to premiere the trailer a day before the IMAX footage.
"It's gotta hell of a lotta hype," he admitted to us. "I read all what was said yesterday about the trailer. I can see their point, but as I said, it's not meant to be built for an Apple Mac, it's built for IMAX, it's built for 3D, that's what he's designed it for. He's designed it to bring people back to the cinema. It's interesting that he's released that trailer and the next day, he shows it on IMAX. It's one extreme to the other. We get the criticism and then we get the rave reviews of what it really looks like in its own formula. That's obviously going to get people to think and go, 'Damn right! I'm going to go and see this at the cinema.' Jim has always said to me that he wants to bring people back to the movies, and he's a smart enough man for that to be tactical."
He also admits his love for working with James Cameron and opens up about the reaction to Terminator Salvation. Check it out here.
Sound off below, Maniacs.
Even Sam Worthington is ashamed he didn't tell McG about the crazyness going on in Terminator Salvation. McG you fail!
