According to Superherohype.com, Director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, The World’s End) has left Ant-Man. The reason being? It appears as if there is creative differences between the studio and the director. Marvel Studios released the following statement:
Marvel and Edgar Wright jointly announced today that the studio and director have parted ways on Ant-Man due to differences in their vision of the film. The decision to move on is amicable and does not impact the release date on July 17, 2015. A new director will be announced shortly”.

What could the creative differences be? Now of course, the next big question is who will direct Ant-Man?

Synopsis: The film follows a biochemist Dr. Hank Pym using his latest discovery, a group of subatomic particles, to create a size-altering formula. Though his first self-test goes awry, he develops an instrument that helps him communicate with and control insects. Paul Rudd will play Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Michael Douglas stars as Hank Pym.
Ant-Man is written by Joe Cornish (Attack the Block) and features Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Patrick Wilson and Corey Stoll.
Ant-Man arrives July 17, 2015.

Marvel Studios, where only puppets are allowed.

I dont see it that way. I think if Marvel had a problem with him, then im on Marvel's side for sure. All their movies have all been so awesome, so they obviously know what they're doing, and know what they want.

Maybe this dude doesnt understand how it works, and could have made another Joel Schumaker-Batman type of disaster or some crap.

ElBaz13 5/23/2014 2:16:06 PM

And good puppets they get!

Wiseguy 5/23/2014 2:19:32 PM

I think hanso and blankchek are one and the same

My problem with this is WTF? They've been developing this for like 5 years with Wright, and now they figure out they have creative differences.

I say bring back Favreau

What pisses me off is Ant-man could not be used for Avengers because they were waiting for Wright.

And now this.

Here is my theory. Wright had Ant-Man even before the MCU  in 2008. When the MCU got big. Marvel went back to him and said to get Ant-Man in the MCU. I'm guessing Wirght wanted a stand alone film and not be tied up to the rest of the MCU. He finally agreed to do Ant-Man but under Marvel's supervision. In the end, he probably got fed up and walked out. Probably because they told him to tie in some Age of Ultron stuff and maybe do a post credits scene.

agree Violator. Wright is probably thinking stand alone but that's not what it is now with Marvel. Directors should know what to expect. Whedon, the Russo bros and James Gunn all did.

No shortage of young directors out there that are fans. They will find someone.

The Russo Bros impressed me a lot for newbies to movie directing (I was the skeptic). But, I  read an interview with these guys and they were diehard Cap fans since they were kids. collecting the comics on a regular basis. Not the director who claims he's a fan after reading a couple of TBPs.

Everyone on this thread has a good point, but here is what sucks about this...........instead of being able to tell the REAL story of how Ultron was created, we are stuck with the Tony Stark version.  Don't get me wrong, I love RDJ and IronMan, but Captain America is the true leader/center of the Avengers/Marvel Universe.  I can live with a lot of the changes, but when TS is responsible for Ultron, that sucks.  Ant-Man/Hank Pym could have been introduced long ago in these movies.  And how the hell is someone attached to a project for 5 freaking years and leaves it just as it's about to take off ??  Cannot wait to hear the real story behind this.  Is this the first chink in the Marvel Studios armor ??

Yeah collider said his involvement with ant-man was even before iron man came about and fiege has been quoted as saying wright's ideas helped shape the marvel cinematic universe.  I don't think him being forced to be in the cinematic U or a post credits scene had anything to do with it. He knew what he was getting into. I think marvel may have stepped into his script and overtook some of his vision.  I'll buy that maybe he got fed up if they told him he had to tie a bunch of stuff into other movies but I bet he was cool with a post credit scene.  He is a nerd that loves this stuff just as much as we do. I have read and watched interviews with him. He loves comics and clearly by his body of work genre flicks.

It just sucks because this was his story and it seemed like he was really involved, hell he even shot the test footage that was shown at comic con a few years ago. Just a bummer because he's a good filmmaker/storyteller.

Yeah goirish the actually story behind this should be really interesting. I mean as long as he's been with this. I was more excited for this than any of the upcoming marvel U flicks save Age of Ultron.
