Doctor Strange in 2016

Phase 3 and after Ant-Man

By Robert T. Trate     May 04, 2013

Long have their been talks about a Doctor Strange movie. Even Mania brought it up to Marvel uber Producer Kevin Feige back in 2008 (read here).  Well with Keige making the press junket for Iron Man 3, asked the question yet again, when will we see Doctor Strange?

Kevin Feige had this to say:

“Dr. Strange is something that I talk about often and it’s sort of next up for us to dig into and explore.  Our executive producer of Iron Man 3, having done Captain America: The First Avenger and as that was finishing he started working on the bones that would become Iron Man 3, and now that he’s finished with Iron Man 3, he’s working on the bones that would become Doctor Strange.  Now that Iron Man 3 is finished, some of our quote-unquote spare time is going to be devoted to trying to crack Strange.”

Feige then revealed that Doctor Strange would follow Ant-Man:

“As we look past 2015, past Avengers 2 and Ant-Man, I think Dr. Strange should be one of the next movies in the years following that.”

So it is all just a matter of time. In terms of casting, Mania asked that question back in 2008, during The Incredible Hulk press junket. Feige had this to say:

I think Stephen Strange shares a quirkiness, a uniqueness with Tony Stark so I can think of a hand full of people to play Stephen Strange. What I love to do is ask you guys who you want to play role. We patrol the message boards all the time to see who the fans want in this particular role. I’ll tell you this, our movies have two casting lists. One that comes from the casting director and our own ideas but the other is from the message boards about what people are buzzing about”.

Sound off below Maniacs. Who do you want to see as Doctor Strange?

Jim caviezel. But if Johnny drop wasn't so pricey, he'd be ideal imo

I assume you meant Johnny Depp violator. OMG you just made me throw up a little inside my mouth.

I vote for Jon Hamm. He exudes the maturity the Doctor needs and can be funny too

Strange...that's all fine and dandy, but what about another Hulk movie?

Nathan Fillian, Bradley Cooper, Adrian Brody, Jean Dujardin (for the look, not sure about his accent), Zachary Quinto, John Barrowman (for an older Strange), Peter Hooten (wait, no, forget that), Benedict Cumberbatch, Jonny Lee Miller.

James Hong as the Ancient One.

Danny McBride, Gerard Butler, Michael C Hall or Adam Baldwin as Baron Mordo.

Alice Eve or Hayden Penetierre as Clea.

Keith David, Christopher Lee or Ian McKellan as the voice of Dormmammu.

C.S. Lee or Reggie Lee as Wong.

David Tennant

He's got that quirky, otherworldly look that works for roles like Doctor Strange.  He's a great actor as well.  I do feel however that if he were to get the role of Sorcerer Supreme, they'd have to make the character British.  I've heard David try an American accent, and he just can't pull it off convincingly.  Besides, aren't all wizards supposed to have an english accent anyway?  From the perspective of Marvel Studios, they would also like Tennant because they can get him cheap.

As a side note, I discovered yesterday that Ghost Rider has been returned to Marvel Studios somehow.  All of Marvel's horror characters are now back in the stable.  With Doctor Strange leading the way, could the Midnight Sons be somewhere down the line?

I'd like someone not so obvious for the role. Robert Downey, Jr. was not the obvious pick for Iron Man- even though he was perfect. I was delighted with his casting because it was ballsy.

I keep thinking of the guy from The Mentalist. Only because he had mentioned the probability of playing Dr. Strange.

I still like Karl Urban if they go younger...If they go older, I would have liked either Gary Oldman or Hugo Weaving, but one is starting to look a bit TOO old, and the other is already The Red Skull.

Todd Boyer or Kieth Crum would be good...

Viggo Mortensen
