they will NEVER replace the original.  Bruce Campbell, there is no substitute!

I think the whole reason for Raimi and Campbell remaking this is to make the movie that they had originally intended to make in the first place.  The original was supposed to be really scary and a more serious movie, but it turned out to be campy, cheesy, and ultimately we got what we have in the cult classic of the original.  Don't get me wrong, I love the first Evil Dead.  I'm just saying I think Campbell and Raimi want to come back and do it "right" this time, and I'm looking forward to seeing what comes of their new effort.  I don't think anyone's trying to "replace" the original Evil Dead.  I think they just feel like in a way they have some unfinished business to take care of.

If you look at all three previous films, they are like alternate universe instances of the same happening; each subsequent film take a lets do the first one better, they weren't really sequels, so this is the super serious, no excrement universe where nothing funny or campy happens. I can get inline with that. we have four alternate universe accounts of dumbasses opening the Book of the Dead.
