redhairs, it may have been action that it was lacking. I found that movie incredibly boring, and the ending battle was rather stupid.

Three months after reports resurfaced for a Planet of the Apes prequel based around the character of Caesar, Deadline New York is reporting a director may be close to signing on board. The website reports that helmer Rupert Wyatt (The Escapist) has moved into the front runner position to take over the directing duties for the project. If he comes on board, he'll be helming based off a script rewrite by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.
Back in January it was reported that while Fox didn't like screenwriter Scott Frank's treatment and was taken off the project, the studio was still wanting to bring their franchise back into the spotlight.
Frank’s Apes script, code-named Caesar, showed how genetic experiments on apes led to their evolutionary eclipse of humans. "Caesar" refers to the genetically altered leader of the simian rebellion, so dubbed because the ape was capable of grand strategic thinking on par with Julius Caesar (whose own surname means "hairy" in Latin). The "Caesar" code name also foreshadowed the script's plot: Just as the actual Julius Caesar set Rome on the path to the Roman Empire, the experimental ape's escape sets in motion his fellow hirsute hominids' (wait for it ... ) guerrilla war and subsequent dominance.*
The studio, however, wanted to pursue a different tack than Frank, and the writer-director was unwilling to change direction, according to a production source.
There's no start date but if Wyatt signs on the dotted line to direct, we may hear more about a production window in the near future.

I'm cool with this. I just don't want another remake. A prequel or even another sequel to Burton's would be ok with me
The originals are classics and should be left alone forever! (Burtons attempt at a remake was a damn shame!) This on the other hand sounds interesting and has potential to be great.
So is this a prequel to the original PotA or to Conquest? Because, if memory serves me correctly, Caesar was Cornelious' son (thus having Roddy McDowell play both characters). Or was there an ancestor of Cornelious/Caesar also named Caesar? I could be down with a new story set in the same world. A world without Tim Burton, of course.
This doesn't need to be made. I was so dissapointed by the last one. Let's just let it lie.
Can we just move forward already after the new one a few years back with Matt Damon. Do we have to have all of these prequels. NOt every sing franchise needs a prequel especially Planet of the Apes. If u even seen all of the original Planet of the Apes, everything is pretty much explain. Stop the Maddness.
PUNCH TO THE ARM! I thought I told you no puns!
Just kidding, Jarrod. Seriously though, do we need another Apes film? The originals are all fine by me, and while the make-up effects in Tim Burton's version were great, the story just seemed to lack something.
