Yes, kids, Identity Thief has taken the box office weekend. The following report by Rudy Subers from Box Office Mojo is almost as shocking.
“Identity Thief fell 41 percent to an estimated $14.1 million this weekend. Through 17 days, the Jason Bateman-Melissa McCarthy comedy has earned $93.7 million, which makes it the highest-grossing movie of 2013 ahead of Django Unchained ($90.5 million). By Friday, Identity Thief will become the first 2013 movie to pass $100 million, and it should have little difficulty matching director Seth Gordon's Horrible Bosses, which ended its run with $117.5 million”.
Yes, you read that right, by next week Identity Thief will be the highest grossing film of 2013. I wonder who will fair better than Identity Thief? Will it be Evil Dead or Oz the Great and Powerful?

This week we see if Bryan Singer can deliver the effects heavy Jack the Giant Slayer. It’s that movie or yet another Exorcism...
It looks like beautiful creatures wont spawn a trillogy with those numbers.
AGDTDH going to be the first in the series not to make back its budget during the initial release? Sad. I hate to see it go out with a whimper.
Snitch was a good story. Sorry it bombed. Slow year so far for movies obviously.
Actually AGDTDH has already made over 187 million dollars worldwide.
So it's made back it's budget and then some.
And no, i'm not defending it, but it's been killing the international box office.
Jack the Giant Slayer is really, really good, you guys. Seriously, couldn't believe how much fun it was.

I think they forgot what made the Die Hard series special ...
Am looking forward to Giant Slayer too
AGDTDH felt like a movie that either was trying to go Indian Jones and the Last Crusade or which had been written as something else and just forced into Die Hard. Mindless over the top action and even the characters seemed dumb- seriously, who in the theater didn't see what was going to happen when the helicopter took off and McClane was still on the top floor of the hotel and yet they tried to sell it like the characters who'd just seen through a major plot thing couldn't figure that out in advance.
Also went to see Silver Linings Playbook, nice feel good movie that had some predictable parts and some parts that were underdeveloped for what they set up but it was very sweet and feel good.
Over the week I saw Identity Thief and thought it mediocre. Man that chick is HUGE, I can see why that critic said what he said although I think he should've kept his mouth shut about it.. It's one thing to comment about one's weight in conversation but to put it out there publicly the way he did was a bit much even for me.
The latest Die Hard was just a brainless action film. I don't feel the previous 4 were brainless so this one to me definitely took a big step down. And McClane was made out to be too much of a super man. After that initial roll in the truck he got out almost as if nothing. At least in the other films he could see him struggling through the pain.
Snitch, decent film. Better than I expected but to be honest it felt too tame for the theater.
And I'm that guy that is looking forward to Jack the Giant Slayer, it looks fun
