An Xbox sequel to THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK?

While THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK is proving to be a dud at the box office (ticket grosses number only $53 million domestic so far), the Xbox video game has become a breakthrough hit. THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK: ESCAPE FROM BUTCHER BAY has leapt to the top of sales charts for Xbox games and gathered a slew of high ratings from video game critics. With over 100,000 BUTCHER BAY units already sold since its release three weeks ago, and forecasts of future sales of a quarter-million units, the Tigon Studios game is considered a bestseller for the Microsoft gaming unit. And if success means anything in the world of business, that means a sequel is probably coming.
According to a report in Variety, VU Games is now considering about asking for a sequel to ESCAPE FROM BUTCHER BAY to be made. Since Vin Diesel owns Tigon and was instrumental in the development of BUTCHER BAY, chances are good the developer and actor will both be back for any future chronicles. Whether that game would be a direct sequel to BUTCHER BAY (which itself is set before the events of PITCH BLACK) or a direct sequel to THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK remains to be seen.
In related news, VU Games has stated that ESCAPE FROM BUTCHER BAY will be brought over to the PC. It's believed that the game should be out in stores before the end of the year.
