X-Files 2 Title Revealed by Carter

Those of you who remember Agent Fox Mulder's office will know why the new X-Files 2 title is so familiar. Chris Carter and producers have chosen an official title for the upcoming sequel hitting this summer, the new title being The X-Files: I Want to Believe. The title is a reference to Mulder's famous poster, usually shown in the background shots in his office scenes.

"It's a natural title," Carter said. "It's a story that involves the difficulties in mediating faith and science. 'I Want to Believe.' It really does suggest Mulder's struggle with his faith."

Carter said he settled on "I Want to Believe" from the time he and co-writer Frank Spotnitz started on the screenplay. It took so long to go public with it because studio executives wanted to make sure it was a marketable title, he said.

I'm glad it's not Wiseguy. SALVATION, what a terribly cliched title.

Funny...I see "I Want to Believe" as a bit of a hard sell to the general public. Oh sure, us X-Files will embrace the title as a natural continuation from where the series left off, but I think non-XPhiles won't get it. Maybe even be turned off by it. I think going a simpler route would have been preferable. Something like "X-Squared: The X-Files" (only with the X2 logo, not X-Squared spelled out).

it sounds like a good title to me and sure as hell is better than X-Files Mortal

This sounds less like a title Carter dreamed up and more like one the studio execs created.

Then, much like a Dilbert world, they patted themselves on the back for their "brilliance," with high five's all around, and Carter was stuck with it.

man i so wanted this one to have that werewolf spin like the first "leaked" image led us to believe but I am sure I will still check it out at the movies if it still is the alien invasion theme.
